Porsche Presents a Unique Road Hypercar Based on the 963 LMDh Race Car
Porsche has unveiled the unique 963 RSP hypercar, which is a road-going version of the 963 LMDh race car. This is a one-off unit, commissioned by Timo Resch, President of Porsche Cars North America, as a tribute to the legendary Count Rossi 917. The car received minor changes to meet road standards but retained the main features of the race car.
Details and Features
Body elements are made of carbon fiber and Kevlar, but wheel arch covers have been added and some details, such as the rear wing, have been changed. The Martini Silver color emphasizes elegance, and the interior is upholstered in leather and Alcantara. The seats are borrowed from the racing version but have received additional comfort.
Three-time Le Mans winner Timo Bernhard noted: “Driving this car on the road was an incredible experience. It handled perfectly, a bit softer than a regular 963.”
Technical changes include increased ground clearance, softer dampers, and an adapted transmission. The 4.6-liter V8 engine remains unchanged but now runs on regular fuel. However, Porsche does not specify if the exhaust system has been modified, so the car might be very loud.
The Future of the Hypercar
The 963 RSP is not a production car and has not undergone full road certification. It can only be used under special conditions. After being shown at the 24 Hours of Le Mans, the hypercar will head to the Porsche museum and then to the festival at Goodwood.
This project shows how Porsche implements racing technology in street cars. Although the 963 RSP will remain a unique specimen, it demonstrates the potential for future exclusive models from the brand.
