Someone Refused to Buy a 2024 Ferrari 812 Competizione for Double the Price

If anyone doubted that the collector car market lives by its own rules, this case dispels all questions. With only 60 miles (97 km) on the odometer and having received a record bid of $1,625,000 at auction, the owner decided to keep the car, refusing to sell.

This particular Competizione, number 591 from the limited series of 999 coupes, finished in dark paint with white stripes, is a true time capsule. With an original price of $820,583, a full set of documents, a cover, and tools, it remains practically new, despite its status as a used car.

Under the hood lies a naturally aspirated 6.5-liter V12 with 819 hp (610 kW), paired with a 7-speed transmission, rear-wheel steering, carbon-ceramic brakes, 20-inch wheels, and a liftable front axle. However, it is unlikely this car will ever see a track or even a public road.

A Collector’s Dream

The 812 Competizione is already a contender for future classic status. Ferrari limited its production, avoided hybridization, and equipped it with one of the most powerful V12 engines for a road car. It will undoubtedly become a target for collectors. But refusing an offer that doubles the initial price in today’s conditions is a bold move.

In the world of limited-series Ferraris, sellers play the long game. Some believe the value of these cars will only increase, especially considering the brand’s future novelties. The market already has listings for the 812 Competizione priced over $2 million, despite higher mileage.

Only time will tell if this decision was an act of overconfidence or a calculated investment move that will ultimately pay off.
