Audi Quattro by ABT Receives 523-Horsepower Restomod and Sport Quattro Style

ABT specializes in refining modern models of the Volkswagen Group, but has now presented an exclusive project based on a legend from the 1980s. This is an updated version of the Ur-Quattro with a more powerful engine and stylistic elements inspired by the iconic Sport Quattro.

The premiere took place at the “Friends of ABT” event in Germany. Initially, 25 cars were planned for production, but due to high demand, the number was increased to 30 units, which were sold out within three hours.

CEO of ABT Group, Hans-Jürgen Abt, spoke about his special connection to the Ur-Quattro. He received this model from his father after taking over the leadership position. Instead of keeping it original, he installed wider fenders, alloy wheels, and parts from the Sport Quattro.

The new version from ABT inherits this approach. Although the car has the standard wheelbase, thanks to the updated front end, it resembles the rare Sport Quattro. For comparison: Audi produced 11,452 standard Quattros, while the Sport Quattro had only 214 units, of which 164 were road-going.

The body panels are made of Kevlar and carbon fiber. The modifications include wide fenders, new bumpers, a hood with air intakes, and a large rear spoiler. The interior is equipped with sports seats and a discreet roll cage safety system. Furthermore, buyers can personalize the interior through the ABT Individual program.

Under the hood is a 2.5-liter turbocharged engine from modern Audi models (e.g., RS3 or TT RS), tuned to 523 hp. This is twice as much as the original 1980 Ur-Quattro with its 2.1-liter 197 hp engine, and significantly exceeds the Sport Quattro’s output (302 hp), promising improved dynamics.

To control the increased power, ABT installed an ABS system. Details about the updated suspension are not disclosed, but each of the 30 units will receive a unique chassis. According to Hans-Jürgen Abt, the car can be registered as a historic model with special German H-series license plates.

The project’s price is not disclosed, but similar restyled classics are always expensive. ABT representatives hinted at the possibility of further projects based on historical Audi models, as the success of the Ur-Quattro has inspired new ideas.
