Another Korean Brand Prepares a New ICE Pickup Model to Compete with Ford Ranger

New Pickup from KGM

KGM has announced a new rugged pickup, which is likely to become the successor to the Musso model. This body-on-frame model borrowed design solutions from Ford and Jeep. The car is expected to debut in 2026 with diesel and new hybrid powertrains.

Global Trend for Mid-Size Pickups

The popularity of mid-size pickups is growing worldwide, and manufacturers are trying to compete with leaders such as the Ford Ranger and Toyota Hilux. Kia has already joined the fight with the Tasman model, and now KG Mobility (formerly SsangYong) is preparing its new product. The company plans to develop the Musso brand by offering electric, hybrid, and conventional engines.

Design Overview

After the presentation of the Musso EV, KGM showed another mid-size pickup with a more robust and aggressive appearance. The new model, known under the code Q300, is set to replace the Rexton Sports, which is sold internationally as the Musso. The car was initially presented in sketches and has now appeared in teasers.

The LED headlights are borrowed from the Ford F-150 and BYD Shark, and the Jeep-style grille with lighting adds effect. The robust bumper with a wide air intake emphasizes the stern look.

Body Details

On the sides, the pickup has claddings with integrated orange turn signals, similar to the KGM Musso EV, but the longer body indicates an extended rear section. The roofline, pillars, and rails have remained virtually unchanged compared to the current Rexton Sports. At the rear, narrow vertical LED taillights frame the embossed tailgate with the KGM logo.

Interior and Technical Features

The manufacturer has not yet shown the interior, but a digital instrument panel and a five-seat cabin are expected, which is confirmed by the double cab. The new model will likely use an updated platform and will also receive a hybrid version of the powertrain.

Future Plans

A full presentation may take place in a few months, and the market launch is planned for 2026. Besides South Korea, the pickup could reach Europe, the UK, and Australia, where it will compete with models such as the Ford Ranger, Toyota Hilux, Mitsubishi L200, Nissan Navara, Isuzu D-Max, Mazda BT-50, VW Amarok, Kia Tasman, GWM Cannon, and Maxus/LDV T60.

KGM Rexton Sports Khan Culmen

This news highlights how active Korean manufacturers are becoming in the pickup segment. KGM is clearly aiming for global expansion, offering modern technology and impressive design. Given the growing demand for eco-friendly solutions, the appearance of a hybrid version could be a key advantage for many buyers.
