Flagship Jeep SUV Begins to Fall Apart Before Our Eyes

Problems with the Finishing of Premium Jeep SUVs

Jeep Wagoneer and Grand Wagoneer vehicles are again in the spotlight due to serious issues with the fastening of body elements. This is the second recall in the last month, causing concern among owners of these expensive SUVs.

Scale of the Problem

According to the company’s latest decision, 123,396 Wagoneer and Grand Wagoneer vehicles from model years 2022-2024 are affected by the recall. The main problem lies in the unreliable fastening of the rear pillar trim, which can detach while driving. Experts estimate the defect is present in approximately 9% of the vehicles, amounting to about 11,106 cars.

The US government confirmed that “the D-pillar appliqué on the driver and passenger sides may not be properly secured, allowing it to detach.”

Chronology of Defect Discovery

The manufacturer began an investigation back in May when it became clear that the rear quarter window trim could fall off and create a road hazard. During the investigation, the following was found:

Fortunately, the company reports no injuries or accidents related to this issue.

Current Status of Problem Resolution

The most alarming aspect of the situation is the lack of a ready solution to fix the defect. The manufacturer plans to send initial letters to owners in mid-November, followed by a second notification once a repair method has been developed.

Previous Recall

This is the second recall in a short period. Previously, the company recalled 163,735 Wagoneer and Grand Wagoneer SUVs from model years 2022-2025 due to problems with the door trim, which could also fall off. Those components were supplied by Cooper-Standard, unlike the current case where the supplier is Fuyao Automotive.

The previous problem was less extensive – only 405 warranty claims, three field reports, and 112 other service records.

Conclusions and Outlook

A solution already exists for the door trim problem – dealers will inspect the door aperture trim and replace it if necessary. Notifications for this recall are planned to be mailed around Halloween. A double recall for the same models in such a short period raises questions about quality control at the manufacturing plant, especially considering the premium status and high cost of these vehicles, which can exceed $100,000. Owners are advised to closely monitor official communications from the manufacturer and immediately contact dealerships if any signs of trim problems are detected.
