The Bugatti Veyron Pur Sang is one of only five examples ever released in the world. This particular car, despite being 17 years old, has covered only 4,740 miles. It was sold at an RM Sotheby’s auction for $2.3 million.
Design Features
Every Bugatti Veyron is special by definition, but the Pur Sang version stands out even among them. This is a limited series of five units that reimagines the look of an exotic car without paint or ornamentation.
The Pur Sang’s exterior finish makes it unique compared to regular Veyrons. Instead of painted surfaces, most of the body panels are made of mirror-polished aluminum, including the front, sides, doors, and rear wings.
Areas that do not feature polished aluminum, such as the center of the hood, roof, and rear section, have an exposed carbon fiber finish.
Technical Specifications
Although Bugatti did not aim to make the Pur Sang faster than the standard Veyron, the use of exposed materials reduced the car’s weight by 90 kg, which could have slightly impacted its performance.
Like all 16.4 models, it is equipped with a powerful 8.0-liter quad-turbo W16 engine that produces 986 horsepower. The performance figures remain impressive even today: acceleration from 0 to 100 km/h in approximately 2.5 seconds and a top speed of up to 407 km/h.
History and Auction
Production of the Pur Sang was limited to five examples, which were sold out almost instantly. The car that went under the hammer has chassis number one, initially delivered to Germany, where it remained until 2010. It later moved to a Swiss collector and then changed hands again in 2018, returning to Germany.
After 17 years, it has covered only 7,629 kilometers and remains in impeccable condition, as if time has not touched it.
RM Sotheby’s expected the Pur Sang to sell for between $2.1 and $2.55 million. When the hammer fell, the final price was €1,973,750, or approximately $2,301,298 at the current exchange rate.
This is an impressive sum that reminds us that for some collectors, beauty and rarity speak louder than absolute speed.
The Pur Sang’s sale price highlights how automakers create unique models to meet collector demand. The use of materials without paint not only reduced weight but also enhanced aesthetic value, making this car a historical artifact in the world of supercars. This approach demonstrates that engineering and art can coexist, leaving a legacy for future generations.
