Alfa Romeo’s Plan for the Coming Years
Stellantis has changed its plans regarding the new generations of the Alfa Romeo Giulia and Stelvio models, extending the production of current versions until the end of 2027. This means that the expected updated models will appear later than initially anticipated.
Key Changes in the Brand’s Strategy
Furthermore, the brand has decided not to expand into the large car segment, which is not surprising, as every Alfa Romeo manager for the last twenty years has promised a flagship sedan and SUV but never realized these plans.
Alfa Romeo’s New Roadmap
Alfa Romeo CEO Santo Ficili is set to present the updated strategy in the first half of 2026. He confirmed that the brand will focus on small, compact, and medium segments, noting that large cars are not Alfa Romeo’s territory.
This is a significant change compared to the plans of the previous manager, who wanted to create a large electric SUV for the North American and Chinese markets.
The new management does not wish to compete with brands such as BMW, Mercedes, and Audi in the realm of large electric vehicles. Instead, the next generations of the Giulia and Stelvio, built on the STLA Medium platform, will remain the pinnacle of the brand’s lineup.
Return of the Quadrifoglio Models
The recently discontinued Quadrifoglio versions for the Giulia and Stelvio are already being prepared for a comeback. Alfa Romeo’s UK head, Jules Tilstone, reported that production of these models will resume in April 2026.
He noted that the powertrain will remain virtually unchanged, meaning the models will retain the 2.9-liter twin-turbo gasoline V6 without electrification.
The engine may require minor refinements to comply with Euro 7 emission standards, but this will hardly affect performance. Previously, this engine produced up to 513 hp, and in the limited edition GTA and GTAm versions – up to 532 hp.
In the US, Quadrifoglio sales ended in 2024 with special Super Sport versions. The question of whether the new Quadrifoglio will be available on the American market after production resumes remains open.
Previous reports indicated that Alfa Romeo was considering both conventional and electric versions for future Quadrifoglio models. However, due to the extended production of the current generation, any new high-performance variants will not appear anytime soon.
These changes in Alfa Romeo’s strategy reflect current trends in the automotive industry, where many manufacturers are reorienting towards smaller, more efficient models, avoiding the risks associated with large electric cars. The focus on hybrid and electric technologies for the medium segment could provide the brand with stability in the face of growing competition.
