The Dream of a New Lancer Evolution Remains Alive
A Mitsubishi engineer confirmed that the dream of the legendary Lancer Evolution’s return continues to exist. The future model might receive a hybrid powertrain with an advanced all-wheel-drive system.
Technological Potential and Challenges
The automotive industry has changed significantly since 2016, when the last Lancer Evolution rolled off the assembly line. During this time, Mitsubishi has focused on more profitable projects and launched several Renault models under its own brand in Europe.
However, fans of the legendary rally car need not lose hope. The topic of Lancer Evolution periodically surfaces within the company’s circles, indicating that the brand’s sporting DNA is not yet completely lost.
At the recent Japan Mobility Show, Mitsubishi presented several new models, including the Elevance concept crossover and updated versions of the Delica, but no sports car was shown.

Development Prospects
We have a dream, of course, for the Lancer Evolution. It is my personal dream
We have various technologies at our disposal
The engineer likely refers to Mitsubishi’s hybrid systems, which could be combined with the S-AWC all-wheel-drive system. He also noted that any future Evolution version must be electrified.
Technical Possibilities
The modern hybrid system used in the Outlander PHEV combines two electric motors with a gasoline engine, providing a total output of 302 hp. The Elevance concept takes this idea further, using four electric motors and an engine capable of running on eco-friendly fuel.
Theoretically, Mitsubishi could extract more power from this system for a modern Lancer Evolution. The main problem remains the economic justification for developing a completely new model without direct assistance from alliance partners – Renault and Nissan.

The Future of the Ralliart Brand
The Ralliart division, recently revived, is currently limited to cosmetic enhancements. The engineer noted that there are broader plans for using this brand, but details have not yet been disclosed.
For now, the Evolution legacy continues to live on in the work of independent designers, such as Hycade Design, who create visualizations of what fans hope to see on the roads in the future.
The return of the iconic model would require not only technical solutions but also a strategic approach to positioning in the modern market. The development of electric vehicles and changing consumer preferences create both new challenges and opportunities for the revival of the legendary brand. The success of such a project would depend on Mitsubishi’s ability to combine the model’s traditional values with modern technologies and market demands.
