Presentation of the Updated Ford Mondeo
At the auto show in Guangzhou, Ford officially presented the updated Mondeo sedan, which is known in some regions under the name Taurus. The car received external changes, updated software, and somewhat more powerful engines.
In North America, Ford discontinued the production of classic sedans in 2019, but in China and some other markets, the Mondeo model continues to evolve. The update touched upon the exterior, technologies, and powertrains.
Exterior Changes
The most noticeable updates concern the front and rear of the car. The LED headlights now have clearer shapes and more modern graphics, giving the sedan a greater resemblance to the Mustang. The radiator grille has become wider, and the bumper more sporty.
The rear received updated lights, a modified bumper with black inserts and a diffuser. The overall dimensions remained unchanged: length — 4,935 mm, wheelbase — 2,945 mm.
Interior Updates
The car’s interior retained the 12.3-inch digital instrument panel and the multimedia system with a 27-inch screen. However, it now runs on the new version of SYNC+ software and the Snapdragon 8155 chip, which provides a faster interface and an improved voice assistant.
The center console was redesigned: two wireless chargers and new cup holders appeared. The physical climate control buttons are now located under the ventilation vents.
Engine Power
The updated Mondeo is offered with gasoline and hybrid powertrains, which received a slight power increase:
All versions have front-wheel drive. Gasoline models are equipped with an eight-speed automatic transmission, and hybrids with a continuously variable transmission (CVT).
Production and Future Updates
The updated Mondeo is produced in China by the Changan Ford joint venture. The model’s prices will be announced later. It is currently unknown whether similar updates will be applied to the Mondeo Sport crossover, which was previously called Evos.
Teasers of the updated Taurus for the Middle East market were also presented, which differs in other emblems and smaller screens in the interior.
The Ford Mondeo update demonstrates that sedans remain relevant in some markets, despite the general trend of decreasing their popularity. Improvements in technology and design may interest buyers looking for a comfortable and modern car. The use of more powerful engines and updated software makes the model competitive in its segment, especially in markets where sedans are still in demand.
