Chase of a Dodge Charger in Atlanta
Police pursuits happen often, but rarely are they as chaotic as this case. The driver of a Dodge Charger staged a short but extremely turbulent chase with Georgia state patrol officers in downtown Atlanta. Although the criminal failed to escape, he made it very clear that he really did not want to go to jail that evening. This case once again proved that even great engine power is far from a guarantee of success when fleeing from law enforcement.
Start of the Pursuit
A video published on YouTube shows Senior Sergeant Matthews’ attempt to stop the aforementioned Dodge Charger, whose driver decided not to comply. The officer assumed that the fleeing car was either a “Scat Pack” or a “Hellcat widebody” — high-power modifications, which explains why the suspect almost immediately managed to create a significant distance between himself and the police car.
Soon after the chase began, Matthews reported that passengers had thrown a “very large bag” out of the window, which, in his opinion, could have contained cocaine.
First Attempt to Stop the Car
The high-speed chase continued towards North Ave NW, where the Charger first lost control and went into a skid. Matthews attempted a PIT maneuver (to stop the vehicle) when the Dodge stopped. The passengers put their hands out of the windows, showing surrender, but the driver had other plans.
He sharply pressed the gas pedal, scraping and dragging his car over the front bumper of the patrol car, then abruptly drove onto an exit ramp, moving against the flow of traffic, forcing the pursuit to start anew under even more dangerous conditions.
Second Attempt and Driver’s Escape
When the driver entered the city streets, Matthews managed to perform a second PIT maneuver. The Charger went into a skid again, hit a curb, and stopped. The passengers again put their hands out, but the driver jumped out of the car and fled on foot.
Unexpected Turn of Events
It was at this moment that the situation shifted from typical to almost cartoonish. After fleeing on foot and disappearing behind a building, the driver, in an incomprehensible way, made a circle and appeared from the same corner.
He ran straight to his Charger, as if planning to get back in it and continue the chase. However, he apparently didn’t account for the fact that another officer was already near the car. The moment wasn’t captured on camera, but the audio recording confirms what happened next: the driver was stopped with a taser.

Summary of the Incident
Official details regarding those detained, the thrown bag, or possible injuries have not been disclosed at this time. However, this chase is another reminder that the great engine power possessed by the Dodge Charger becomes an advantage only when the person behind the wheel has sufficient skill and self-control to manage it. In this case, that power only prolonged the chaos and led to a more dangerous situation on the city’s roads. Such incidents often become the subject of discussion regarding pursuit tactics and risks to public safety, especially in dense urban conditions where every sharp maneuver can have serious consequences.
