A Unique Project Based on a Modern Dodge Challenger
From time to time, automotive projects emerge that make you look twice, even if you’re not sure whether you like them or not. Two years ago, ExoMod introduced a custom 2022 Dodge Challenger SRT Hellcat Redeye, dressed in the attire of the legendary 1969 Dodge Daytona.
This very car is now preparing for auction in mid-January. It may not be to everyone’s taste, but it’s impossible to deny that it is impressive.
Titanic Effort and Transformation
ExoMod spent approximately 3,500 hours transforming the modern Challenger into a full-fledged tribute to the Daytona. Every original body panel was replaced with a handmade carbon fiber one, step by step, until no trace of the factory metal remained.
From muscle car to unique carbon fiber creation
Design: From Bold to Bizarre
Undoubtedly, the most incredible part of the design is the front end, where the tuner created a new nose reminiscent of the classic Daytona. However, while the front of the original Daytona was streamlined and aggressive, this one looks rounded and odd.
However, this muscle car does have its good angles. A majestic wing is installed at the rear, just like on the original, and exposed carbon fiber can be seen around the taillights. There is also a carbon fiber diffuser and a dual central exhaust system exiting from the bumper.
Dimensions and Interior
Thanks to the new panels, this Challenger became 4 inches wider than the original 1969 model, but 5.5 inches shorter. It is somewhat disappointing that the interior remained mostly standard, although the seats and door panels were reupholstered.
The Heart Remains Untouched
ExoMod also decided not to interfere with the 6.2-liter supercharged Hellcat V8 engine. Not that it needed it. It still produces 797 horsepower, which is more than enough to scare some million-dollar supercars at a traffic light.
The original eight-speed automatic transmission also remained, sending power to the massive 315/35 ZR20 rear tires.
The Path to Auction and Recognition
The Barrett Jackson auction house is handling the sale of this car and notes that it received the Super Street/Modified Blue Ribbon Award at the 2023 Muscle Car and Corvette Nationals show, scoring 998 points out of a possible 1000.
This project vividly demonstrates what 3,500 hours of obsessive work with carbon fiber can lead to. The car awaits its new owner at the January auction, where everyone can judge whether this is genius, madness, or a bit of both.
Similar projects, where modern technology is dressed in historical clothing, always spark lively discussions among car enthusiasts. On one hand, there’s an insane amount of manual labor and uniqueness; on the other, the aesthetics don’t always find unanimous approval. Preserving the original powerful powertrain makes this car not just a showpiece, but a true powerful muscle car that combines the spirit of two eras. It will be interesting to see what price the market sets for such a blend of nostalgia, craftsmanship, and modern technology.
