New Donkervoort P24 RS Model Gets American Engine Instead of German and Fully Open Design

Dutch automaker Donkervoort has introduced its boldest model to date – the P24 RS. This car becomes the successor to the F22, which received its last update at the end of 2024. The car is limited to a series of just 150 units worldwide, with a starting price of 298,500 euros.

New Powertrain

For many years, Donkervoort used modified versions of the beloved 2.5-liter turbocharged five-cylinder Audi engine. However, the P24 RS makes a sharp turn. Under its vented hood now lies a bi-turbo 3.5-liter EcoBoost V6 engine from Ford, offered in three power variants: 400, 500, and a maximum of 600 horsepower. Torque in the most powerful version reaches 800 Nm.

This is a significant step forward in power, considering the previous Donkervoort F22 produced a maximum of 500 hp using the five-cylinder Audi engine.

The engine is equipped with a dry sump lubrication system, variable valve timing, and combined fuel injection for optimal efficiency and response. The intake system is made of carbon fiber, and the exhaust manifolds are manufactured using 3D printing, showcasing Donkervoort’s traditional emphasis on low weight and high strength. Boost is provided by two turbos from the Dutch firm Van der Lee.

Transmission and Controls

Interestingly, the car uses a five-speed manual gearbox, mid-mounted, which is an unconventional choice these days, but it includes an auto-blip function. Power is delivered to the rear wheels via a Torsen limited-slip differential. Power steering and even ABS are optional.

Lightness as a Priority

Like all Donkervoort models, the P24 RS prioritizes lightness. Its dry weight is only 780 kg, ensuring an impressive power-to-weight ratio. While Donkervoort does not disclose the 0-100 km/h time, the company claims the car needs only 7.4 seconds to reach 200 km/h, and its top speed exceeds 300 km/h.

The car’s construction combines aluminum tubes and carbon components. As with previous Donkervoort models, agility takes priority over pure straight-line speed. The suspension features active Tractive dampers on all four wheels, paired with a hydraulically adjustable ride height system that offers several stiffness settings. The brakes are four-piston AP Racing calipers paired with ventilated discs.

Tires and Aerodynamics

Shod in Nankang CR-S tires, the P24 RS can generate up to 2.3G in cornering and 1.3G under braking. Customers seeking maximum grip can also order a larger front splitter and carbon aerodynamic fins at the rear.

Interior and Sales

The interior of the P24 RS is a completely new development. Matte carbon fiber dominates the surfaces, focusing all attention on the driver’s sensations. There is a simple three-spoke steering wheel and a small digital instrument cluster, but there is no built-in multimedia system screen. If you want music or maps, you’ll have to use your phone or an optional iPad Mini mount.

Sales of the P24 RS are already moving quickly: over 50 of the 150 planned units have already been reserved by buyers from Europe, the USA, and the Middle East. So if you’re thinking about buying, perhaps you shouldn’t wait too long.

The emergence of the P24 RS clearly outlines a new chapter for Donkervoort, where a change in the engine’s heart is accompanied by an unwavering commitment to the philosophy of ultra-lightweight construction. This is not just an update, but a bold rebranding of the brand’s engineering DNA, aimed at meeting the demands of modern enthusiasts seeking extreme performance without compromise. The limited series makes it not only a car but also a potential collectible, combining rarity with radical technical solutions.
