Kalmar has introduced a new version of its 7-97 restomod Porsche, based on the 993 model. This version is called the Turbo Edition and is equipped with a turbocharged engine producing 650 horsepower with all-wheel drive. Production is limited to only 11 units worldwide, making the car highly exclusive. Thanks to extensive use of carbon fiber, the car’s weight is only 1200 kilograms.
From Naturally Aspirated Classic to Turbocharged Power
The previous 7-97 version was equipped with a 4.0-liter naturally aspirated flat-six engine producing 411 hp, offering the driver a pure, analog driving experience. The new Turbo Edition has undergone radical changes: its heart is now a 3.2-liter turbocharged flat-six engine, which delivers 650 hp and 670 Nm of torque. These figures put it on par with modern supercars like the Porsche 911 Turbo S (992 generation).
To support such power, the engine has been completely overhauled: new pistons have been installed, cylinder walls have been reinforced, copper-beryllium cylinder head gaskets have been fitted, and valve seats have been updated. Power is delivered to all four wheels via a manual transmission, and a modern traction control system helps to harness all this might.
Chassis and Body Updates
In addition to developing a special engine, Kalmar has significantly reinforced the car’s chassis. Many components, including the roof and doors, are made of lightweight carbon fiber. The car has received powerful carbon-ceramic brakes on all wheels, 18-inch magnesium wheels with center-lock hubs, and adaptive dampers from TracTive.
This setup feels completely different from the original 930 Turbo, which earned the nickname “widowmaker” due to its sharp power surge and rear-heavy balance.
Kalmar’s approach to turbocharging is more measured. Thanks to modern electronics and suspension systems, the Turbo Edition is designed to deliver all its power without unnecessary drama, unless you specifically want it.
Retro-Modern Design

Unlike some other restomods, Kalmar decided not to make overly drastic changes to the car’s design, instead refining it and making it even better. A new “whale tail”-style spoiler has appeared at the rear, and the front end, inspired by several retro 911 models, integrates a radiator grille reminiscent of the 1967 Porsche 911R style.
Custom Interior Finishing
The updates have also touched the interior. The Turbo Edition largely follows the standard 7-97 model but adds its own individual touches. In the presented photos, Recaro Sportster CS sports seats are installed, upholstered in deep brown leather. It is expected that buyers of each of the 11 units will be able to independently choose materials and interior trim details, fully customizing the car to their taste.
The emergence of the Kalmar 7-97 Turbo Edition demonstrates how restomod ateliers can not only restore classics but also infuse them with the technology and power of modern supercars. The limited production run makes this car not only a high-performance machine but also a potential collectible. This project shows that the demand for unique, handcrafted cars based on iconic platforms is only growing, offering a combination of classic design emotions and unparalleled modern dynamics.
