Ford Actively Advertises Its Future $30,000 Electric Truck
Ford is preparing to launch a $30,000 electric truck, and the constant stream of promotional messages is starting to become tiresome. At the beginning of the month, the company published three essentially blog posts about the affordable mid-size pickup and a 14-minute video that was about 10 minutes too long. However, the video did have a quick image of a sketch that appears to show an early version of a futuristic-looking truck.
Prior to this, the company discussed the failures and unsuccessful attempts of Henry Ford at the Detroit Automobile Company and the Henry Ford Company. The automaker stated that it aspires to similar bold efforts as it “works on designing and manufacturing affordable electric vehicles.”
Affordable Electric Vehicles Already Exist on the Market
The fact is that $30,000 electric vehicles already exist and can be purchased today. Although the future model will be notable as a mid-size truck that will introduce new techniques and technologies, it may not be as revolutionary as Ford wants to convince us.
Ford will likely continue to gradually reveal small details over the coming months, but buyers can already easily visit their nearest Chevrolet dealer and purchase an Equinox EV. Although the model starts at $34,995, the company offers $6,500 in incentives, lowering the starting price to $28,495, not including the $1,800 destination charge.
Competitors Offer Affordable Alternatives
The Chevrolet brand also recently brought back the Bolt model, which starts at $27,600 and has a $1,395 destination charge. This means you can get an electric hatchback with a 262-mile (422 km) range for $28,995.
Chevrolet is not alone, as the updated Nissan Leaf starts at $29,990 before the $1,495 destination charge. An even more affordable variant with a smaller battery and less powerful electric motor will join it later.
All three of these vehicles are available right now, although they do not have a cargo bed. Ford is counting on the bed being a major differentiating factor, although early teaser images suggest it won’t be a typical pickup, as the company emphasizes range and efficiency.
Against the backdrop of the general increase in electric vehicle prices, the emergence of a new model in the affordable truck segment certainly attracts attention. However, it is important to remember that the market already offers several options for those who want to switch to electric transportation without significant financial investment. Ford’s success will depend not only on price but also on how successfully it manages to combine the functionality of a pickup with the efficiency and comfort of a modern electric vehicle, as well as on the charging infrastructure, which continues to remain a key factor for many buyers.
