New Mercedes C-Class EQ: Massive Radiator Grille Becomes the Main Focus

New Electric Mercedes C-Class: Large Radiator Grille and Powerful Technologies

Mercedes-Benz recently introduced the electric version of the GLC, and shortly after hinted at a future fully electric C-Class model with a cryptic teaser. Now, based on this preview, new renderings have emerged, providing a clearer idea of the design of the future compact premium model.

Key features of the new car include:

Attention-Grabbing Design

The visual centerpiece of the car will be the massive radiator grille. Unlike some competitors moving away from overly large grilles, Mercedes seems to be making it the main focus, similar to how Rolls-Royce builds its design around its famous Pantheon grille.

These renderings show that the grille will likely have a thick silver or chrome border, three horizontal bars, and hundreds of small LEDs.

On the sides, there will be new headlights with the star-shaped daytime running lights characteristic of new Mercedes models. Overall, the combination of headlights and grille gives the sedan a very expressive look.

There are suggestions that the electric C-Class may get a liftback body type, similar to the new Audi A5. If confirmed, the rear will be cleaner and more aerodynamic compared to the combustion version. The renderings show slim LED rear lights integrated into a glossy black panel that stretches across the full width of the car.

Technical Specifications and Platform

Like the GLC EQ, the new electric C-Class will be built on the MB.EA architecture. A 94 kWh battery pack and an 800-volt electrical system supporting charging speeds of up to 330 kW will be standard.

The manufacturer confirmed a range of up to 497 miles (800 km), surpassing the GLC EQ’s 443 miles (713 km).

The first to hit the market may be the C400 version with two electric motors producing a combined 483 hp. This should provide a 0 to 60 mph (96 km/h) acceleration in less than five seconds. Versions from the AMG division are also planned, prototypes of which have already been spotted testing with large 21-inch wheels and carbon-ceramic brakes.

Interior and Expectations

Interior details remain a secret for now. Mercedes may install the seamless 39.1-inch MBUX Hyperscreen, as in the GLC EQ, or opt for the newer Superscreen layout from the latest CLA, which combines a 10.25-inch digital instrument cluster, a 14-inch central multimedia screen, and an identical 14-inch screen for the passenger.

The debut of the new C-Class EQ is expected by the end of this year, with global sales launch planned for early 2027.

The transition to electric power for such a key model as the C-Class is an important step for Mercedes-Benz in the context of the brand’s overall strategy. The enlargement of the radiator grille, despite its lack of a traditional engine cooling function, indicates a desire to preserve visual heritage and status, which interestingly contrasts with more minimalist trends in electric car design. The stated range of over 800 km, if confirmed in real-world conditions, could become one of the best in its class, making the model highly competitive in the premium sedan market.
