Chevrolet recently introduced a brand new 6.7-liter V8 engine for the 2027 Corvette model. However, this powertrain will likely appear not only in the sports car very soon.
On the contrary, it is highly probable that this engine will become the heart of the new 2027 Chevrolet Silverado and GMC Sierra pickups. It is set to replace the problematic 6.2-liter V8 engine that was installed previously. The manufacturer hints at this, stating that
“the LS6 marks the beginning of the sixth generation of small-block V8 engines, continuing a legacy that spans over 70 years”
.
Power and Competition
In the Corvette, this engine develops 535 horsepower and 520 lb-ft of torque. This significantly exceeds the figures of the old 6.2-liter Stingray engine. The question remains how this power will be realized in the pickups, where the previous engine produced 420 hp and 460 lb-ft.
If we base it on the power increase in the Corvette, then the pickups can expect an increase of approximately 40 hp and 50 lb-ft. This will allow the new Silverado and Sierra to reach a level of about 460 hp and 510 lb-ft of torque.
With such parameters, the engine will easily surpass competitors like the 5.7-liter Hemi V8 from Ram or their 3.0-liter inline-six Hurricane twin-turbo engine. However, it will likely be somewhat less powerful than the top RHO version.
Comparison with Other Manufacturers
A similar situation is shaping up with Ford models. The new 6.7-liter V8 could become a serious competitor for most of this manufacturer’s engines. Only the turbocharged 3.5-liter V6 engine from the F-150 Raptor and the supercharged 5.2-liter V8 in the R version are capable of approaching its characteristics.
