Aston Martin Lost $666 Million Last Year But Continues Testing a Hypercar Nobody Knew Existed

Camouflaged Aston Martin Prototype During Testing

Despite financial difficulties and poor performance in Formula 1, the British automaker Aston Martin continues developing a new hypercar. A video from tests of a heavily camouflaged prototype at an airbase has appeared online. Its design is an incredible mix of elements from Formula 1 cars, IndyCars, Le Mans race cars, and even futuristic concepts.

Key features of the car visible in the footage:

What’s Hiding Under the Camouflage?

The engine sound audible in the video closely resembles the operation of the naturally aspirated V12 from Cosworth used in the Aston Martin Valkyrie. This suggests that such a powertrain might be hiding under the camouflage.

The car is clearly focused on track performance but does not comply with the rules of any existing racing series. The company is already building customer versions of its Le Mans hypercar — the Valkyrie LM, limited to 10 units. Perhaps this prototype is an even more extreme version for a limited production run. Or it could be a unique project, created, for example, under the direction of Adrian Newey, with the goal of setting absolute lap records.

The appearance of such a prototype during a period when the company has suffered significant financial losses indicates the strategic importance of this project. It could be an attempt to make a statement in the highest segment, demonstrate technological prowess, and attract the attention of investors and enthusiasts. Developing ultra-exclusive models is often not just an engineering challenge but also a powerful marketing tool that shapes the brand’s image for years to come, regardless of current results in mass production or on the racetrack.
