For $80,000 you can buy a used Mansory Smart that has less power than a base Corolla

Two tuned Smart Fortwo by Mansory sold in France for up to $82,300

Soon the new Smart #2 will hit the market, replacing the discontinued Fortwo. It will switch to electric power and feature a more premium interior. However, for those not yet ready to give up the internal combustion engine, there is a version of the old city car from the Mansory tuning house. The only condition is to have deep pockets and disregard the price-to-value ratio.

French dealer Royal Cars has listed two such cars for sale. Both have received body kits from Mansory and carry price tags comparable to real mid-engine sports cars.

First example: 2019 Mansory Fortwo

This is a 2019 car with 15,300 km on the odometer. It is painted in Lamborghini Grey with exposed carbon fiber elements. The body kit includes widened wheel arches, a front splitter, side air intake covers, a roof spoiler, and a rear diffuser with four exhaust tips. However, it lacks the AMG-style air intakes in the bumper, which Mansory sells separately as part of the so-called “soft” package.

The modified Smart is equipped with 18-inch Y-spoke alloy wheels. The interior is fully customized. Although there are no photos of the cabin in the listing, typical Mansory upholstery includes Alcantara and leather with carbon fiber accents.

Second example: 2017 Mansory Fortwo Cabrio

The second car is a 2017 cabriolet with 22,600 km on the odometer. It is painted in Matte Military Green. It features the same wide body kit and carbon fiber accents, but with different black alloy wheels. Under the soft top lies a beige leather interior.

Technical specifications and price

Both models are powered by a 0.9-liter three-cylinder turbocharged Smart engine with a displacement of 900 cc, delivering torque to the rear axle via an automatic transmission. Standard output is 89 hp (66 kW / 90 PS) and 135 Nm of torque. After Mansory modifications, these figures increased to 123 hp (92 kW / 125 PS) and 200 Nm (148 lb-ft). This is a significant boost, but it is hard to justify when looking at the price tag.

The gray hatchback is priced at €67,900 ($80,000). The matte green cabriolet is even more expensive at €69,900 ($82,300). For that money, you could buy used examples of the Porsche 718 Cayman, Alpine A110, or Toyota GR Supra, making the tuned Smart a highly questionable purchase.

The future of the electric Smart #2

As for the next generation of this tiny model, it will hit the market by the end of the year. The fully electric Smart #2 is expected to be more expensive than its predecessors but will offer significantly greater range, slightly larger dimensions, and premium features. Nevertheless, it will likely prove to be a more sensible purchase compared to the aforementioned tuned Mansory Fortwo.

Smart Concept #2

Interestingly, the appearance of such offerings on the market indicates the existence of a niche but affluent audience of collectors or enthusiasts for whom exclusivity and unique style matter more than practicality or power. While most buyers will choose the new electric Smart #2 for its modernity and efficiency, these Mansory Fortwo will remain more as works of tuning art than rational vehicles. Their price, exceeding the cost of many prestigious sports cars, makes them more of an investment in uniqueness than in daily driving.
