BMW installed a DJ booth on the luxurious XM

BMW turned the XM into a mobile DJ station

Although April Fools’ Day was a month ago, BMW decided not to stop and introduced the XM Label Soundmachine. This is a luxurious crossover with a DJ booth installed on the roof.

Created by apprentices from the BMW plant in Dingolfing, this unique vehicle received a chrome finish and special graphic markings, calling it “The Ultimate Sound Machine.” Added to this is a platform on the roof where artists can perform.

More details: BMW abandons the base version of the XM and bets on power

This is just the tip of a very strange iceberg, as the car is equipped with four support posts that hold up a canopy and a two-way LED screen covering over 64 square feet (6 square meters). These are complemented by stationary and moving stage lights, as well as four speakers and four subwoofers from dBTechnologies.

Technical equipment and features

The model is equipped with Pioneer DJ gear, consisting of a DJM V10 mixer and two CDJ 3000X players. If that wasn’t enough, the XM has four fog machines integrated into the wheel arches.

BMW noted that the crossover is “fully functional” and has a TÜV-approved top speed of 9.3 miles per hour (15 km/h). They added that the superstructure weighs approximately 3086 lbs (1400 kg), bringing the total weight to around 6173 lbs (2800 kg).

This is far from the 3840 lbs (1742 kg) of the M3, but the Soundmachine is powered by a high-performance hybrid powertrain consisting of a twin-turbo 4.4-liter V8 engine, a 19.2 kWh battery pack, and an electric motor integrated into an eight-speed automatic transmission. This gives the crossover a combined output of 738 hp (550 kW / 748 PS) and 738 lb-ft (1000 Nm) of torque.

In addition to power, the hybrid system offers another advantage. Thanks to the powerful battery, the sound system, screen, and lights can operate for up to an hour without external power.

Public appearances and context

The XM Label Soundmachine quietly debuted at the Electric Mountain Festival in Sölden last month and recently appeared at the 24-hour race at the Nürburgring. It will also appear at the 24 Hours of Le Mans this summer.

This project demonstrates not only the technical skill of BMW’s plant apprentices but also the company’s bold approach to marketing and creating unique exhibits. Although the XM Label Soundmachine is unlikely to become a production model, it highlights the potential of hybrid powertrains to power heavy equipment, which could be useful for future mobile events or camping. Additionally, the appearance of such a vehicle at prestigious motorsport events like the 24 Hours of the Nürburgring and Le Mans draws attention to the brand and its innovative solutions, even if they are more entertaining in nature.
