Toyota Updates Flagship Japanese Minivans Priced from $31,000 to Over $92,000

Toyota has updated its Alphard and Vellfire minivans. The manufacturer has expanded the lineup of hybrid versions and improved the driving qualities of the vehicles.

Key Changes in the Models

Three years have passed since the release of the models, and engineers decided to refine some details. The updates focused on expanding the electrified lineup, as well as improving the ride smoothness of the Alphard.

External changes are minimal — only a new body color, Neutral Black, has appeared. Inside, the Bronze Sputtering finish, previously available only for the top Executive Lounge version, is now standard across the entire lineup.

The Alphard is now equipped with improved 18-inch alloy wheels with Hyperchrome Metallic finish. Most importantly, all versions of the minivan received frequency-sensitive dampers to enhance comfort.

New Alphard Trim Levels

The main news for the Alphard is the introduction of the new PHEV Z trim. Previously, the plug-in hybrid was available only in the flagship Executive Lounge version. Now it has become more accessible to buyers.

More about Toyota: The cheapest new Corolla has a manual transmission and five pedals.

The Z trim is equipped with 19-inch wheels, a two-section sunroof with an electric sunshade, an Ultrasuede ceiling, natural wood inserts, a leather steering wheel, a 14-inch multimedia system, a 10-speaker audio system, wireless charging, and Executive Power second-row seats with heating and ventilation.

Additionally, the lineup of self-charging hybrids has been expanded with the HEV G trim. Standard equipment includes LED headlights, adjustable and heated front seats, second-row captain’s chairs with heating, rotating armrests, and manual footrests, as well as a 14-inch multimedia system with a panoramic view.

Technical Specifications and Prices

No technical changes occurred under the hood. Both models are offered with gasoline, hybrid (HEV), and plug-in hybrid (PHEV) engines. Gasoline and HEV versions are available with front or all-wheel drive, while the PHEV is offered exclusively with the E-Four AWD system.

More about Lexus: The $100,000 luxury minivan received several new features.

Prices for the updated Toyota Alphard start from ¥4,970,000 ($31,100) for the base G version with a gasoline engine and reach ¥14,850,000 ($92,900) for the flagship HEV Spacious Lounge model introduced in 2025. The more aggressive Vellfire costs from ¥6,749,600 to ¥10,899,900 ($42,300–$68,300).

The Vellfire Remains Unchanged

The Vellfire, which features a more sporty design, did not receive significant updates aside from the general improvements for the lineup. Its price range remained unchanged, making it a more affordable alternative for those seeking a more dynamic appearance without sacrificing comfort.

The updates to the Alphard and Vellfire demonstrate Toyota’s strategy aimed at democratizing hybrid technologies. The expansion of the PHEV and HEV lineup makes more environmentally friendly versions accessible to a wider range of buyers, aligning with the global trend toward electrification. At the same time, the chassis improvements underscore the manufacturer’s desire to maintain leadership in the premium minivan segment, where passenger comfort is a key factor. Interestingly, prices even for the base versions remain high, positioning the Alphard and Vellfire as niche products for affluent buyers who value space and luxury.
