Not Just a Restomod, But a Complete Rebuild
Despite what you might think, this classic Chevrolet C10 hasn’t just received a new engine and a “restomod” label. Much more has gone into it. By the project’s completion, only the body and interior remain from the original pickup. Everything underneath them is a completely different story.
How a Hybrid of Old and New is Born
Built by Icon 4×4, this vehicle is known as the Chevrolet C Modern Retro Series. It actually starts its life as a brand new Chevrolet Silverado 4×4 with a V8 engine, which is then completely disassembled and “re-dressed” in a C10 body from 1967-1972.
You would never guess that under this old rusty truck hides a new Chevy
As a result, the pickup gets a vintage metal body but modern suspension, brakes, and full towing capabilities from the Silverado. Icon 4×4 calls this not a restomod, but a complete re-engineering project, and this claim makes sense. Why restore every original chassis and powertrain part of a half-century-old C10 when you can take the key components from a new vehicle and wrap them in the form of the old one?
“Patina” Style as a New Trend
Those interested in acquiring one of these incredible C10s can choose between two styles: Derelict or Old School. The first option, shown in the photos, uses old C10 bodies with original paint and large areas of rust, creating the impression that the truck has been rotting in a field for years.
In contrast, the Old School style involves a complete restoration of the original body with a new paint finish, making it look brand new.
Interior: Vintage Look with Modern Comfort
As for the interior, it retains most of the original style and appearance but adds modern amenities. It now features high-quality sound deadening, custom-made aluminum dashboard panels, power door locks and windows, whose buttons are hidden in the original handles. Some elements, such as headlight regulators and cruise control, are borrowed from the modern Silverado and relocated to the center of the dashboard. There is also a small infotainment display.
Price and Availability
The C Modern Retro Series will be built to order. One special example will be created under Icon 4×4’s Omakase Special program, which offers unique design and even more exclusive details. Prices for the simplest model in the Derelict style start at $450,000, while the Old School Series costs from $500,000. Although these amounts include the new Chevy Silverado that serves as the vehicle’s base, the donor C10 or C20 is not included in the cost.
This approach to restoration demonstrates how far enthusiasts can go by combining nostalgia for classic design with the reliability and technology of modern vehicles. Instead of spending years searching for and restoring rare parts for an old chassis, Icon 4×4 offers a radical but logical solution: take a ready-made modern platform and “dress” it in the desired body. This is not just a nod to the restomod trend, but a testament that for true connoisseurs, the appearance and spirit of the era are paramount, not the authenticity of every single bolt. The half-million-dollar price tag makes this project exclusive, but it clearly defines the market for those who want the best of both worlds without compromise.
