2027 Jeep Grand Cherokee Brings Back Trailhawk and Overland Trims

Jeep Brings Back Legendary Grand Cherokee Trims: Trailhawk and Overland

Jeep is expanding the Grand Cherokee lineup for 2027 by bringing back two iconic trims — Trailhawk and Overland. The former is focused on maximum off-road capability, while the latter combines off-road qualities with luxury.

Trailhawk: Built for Off-Roading

The Trailhawk model features a new front bumper that provides an improved approach angle. The vehicle is also equipped with a matte black hood decal, red tow hooks, and dark neutral metallic accents.

This Trail Rated-certified SUV rides on 18-inch Granite Crystal wheels fitted with 30.5-inch Goodyear Territory all-terrain tires. The package includes six underbody skid plates and the TrailCam system, which acts as a virtual spotter.

Although Jeep has not released interior photos, it is known that the Trailhawk features Nappa leather seats in Global Black with red contrast stitching. It also comes with the 12.3-inch infotainment system that was introduced with the 2026 refresh.

Key features include the Quadra-Trac II four-wheel-drive system with a two-speed transfer case and the Selec-Terrain traction control system with a Rock mode. The Trailhawk also comes with an electronic locking differential, Quadra-Lift air suspension, and a standard towing package, allowing it to tow up to 6,200 lbs (2,812 kg).

Thanks to the air suspension, the Jeep achieves a maximum ground clearance of 11.4 inches (290 mm), as well as best-in-class approach, breakover, and departure angles of 36, 24.4, and 30.3 degrees, respectively.

Grand Cherokee Overland: Premium SUV

The Grand Cherokee Overland looks very similar to the Trailhawk from the outside but is positioned as a premium SUV. It features the same front bumper but with bright metallic tow hooks.

Differences include black lower body cladding, Silver Silk metallic accents, and a body-colored roof. Buyers also get larger 21-inch wheels with dark Granite Crystal inserts.

The cabin is equipped with heated and ventilated Nappa leather front seats with “Overland” embossing on the backrests. The rear seats are also heated, and the interior is complemented by a unique satin chrome “An-Teak” accent with a liquid chrome applicator.

2027 Jeep Grand Cherokee Overland

Like the Trailhawk, the Overland is equipped with the Quadra-Trac II system with a two-speed transfer case and Quadra-Lift air suspension. The equipment list includes Hill Descent Control and a 360-degree surround-view camera.

Engines and Release Timeline

The Trailhawk is powered by the turbocharged 2.0-liter Hurricane four-cylinder engine, producing 324 hp (242 kW / 329 PS) and 332 lb-ft (450 Nm) of torque. Jeep did not specify which engine is under the hood of the Overland, but it is likely the same unit given its premium positioning.

Both models will go on sale later this year, with more detailed information to be announced closer to the start of sales.

2027 Jeep Grand Cherokee

The return of the Trailhawk and Overland is a strategic move by Jeep, allowing the company to fill two important niches in the Grand Cherokee lineup. The Trailhawk once again becomes a benchmark for off-road enthusiasts, offering best-in-class approach angles and specialized equipment. The Overland, in turn, will attract those seeking comfort and status without sacrificing off-road capability. Interestingly, both versions use the same powertrain and four-wheel-drive system, making the choice between them purely a matter of style and feature priorities. Given the popularity of the Grand Cherokee, these new models have every chance of becoming bestsellers, especially among those who value the brand’s heritage and modern technology.
