Customs clearance of cars with European license plates is quite active. Ukrainian license plates have already received over 65,000 ‘Eurocar’ and this number is growing every day.
According to the head of the Verkhovna Rada Committee on Tax and Customs Policy Nina Yuzhanina, owners of cars with European license plates added 5 billion hryvnias to the budget. Every day in Ukraine, 4,000-4,500 of these cars are cleared through customs. However, not everyone will be able to clear these cars.
Firstly, not everyone can find the owner of the car in Lithuania, Poland, or another EU country. Secondly, the preferential customs clearance period with a 50% discount will end on February 22. And thirdly, clearing very old cars is simply unprofitable. Thus, it turns out that some uncleared cars in Ukraine are easier to sell for any amount of money. In general, just to get rid of them quickly and not pay a fine, which after the transition period will be up to 170,000 hryvnias.
So lately, the internet is simply flooded with ads for selling cars with European license plates for $500-1000, that is, at the price of a fancy smartphone. The idea is that someone else will deal with the problems in the future. Although many buy such cars as auto donors. Meanwhile, deputies propose to extend the 50-percent excise discount for another 90 days, i.e., until May 23. The corresponding bill has already been registered in the Verkhovna Rada.
