Rumors: In 2026, the Dodge Charger will receive the Hemi V8 engine

Engineers are reportedly working on a new Dodge Charger with a Hemi V8 engine.

The model is reportedly planned for release at the end of 2026, approximately a year and a half after the Hurricane I6.

Since the Sixpack variants offer up to 550 hp, the Hemi model can truly heat up the atmosphere.

Earlier this month, it was announced that the Ram 1500 will soon receive the Hemi V8 engines with a volume of 5.7 and 6.4 liters under the hood, with a new TRX variant also expected, possibly even with more power than its predecessor with 702 hp (523 kW / 712 hp).

Since then, we’ve heard rumors that Hemi production will start this summer in Michigan. Now a new report claims that the V8 will find its way into the new Charger.

claims that the iconic brand is actively working on bringing the V8 back into the Charger lineup. This is reportedly expected to happen quite soon, as the Hemi could return at the end of 2026.

Currently, nothing is known about performance characteristics, but the old 5.7-liter V8 engine produced 372 hp, while the 6.4-liter engine provided 485 hp. This is no longer impressive since the twin-turbo 3.0-liter inline Hurricane is expected to achieve power from 420 hp to 550 hp.

This could indicate that Dodge plans to release performance flagships with a V8, which is not surprising given the company’s history with Hellcats, Hellcat Redeyes, and Demons. Of course, only time will tell what will happen.

It’s important to note, according to a report from the end of last year, that installing the Hemi V8 under the hood of the new Charger is easier said than done. It seems this will require serious platform modifications, including significant changes in intake and fire resistance. All this will mean huge investments from Stellantis, but as they say, where there’s a will, there’s a way.

Furthermore, according to engine production data, Dodge has reportedly increased production time. It is now planned to start in May with delivery this summer. However, this is not a big difference since Dodge has already announced that the gasoline Charger will be introduced this summer.
