New project by former Alpina owners
After BMW took full control of Alpina, the former owners of the brand are not sitting idle. They have launched their first product — the Bovensiepen Zagato coupe, based on the BMW M4. Orders are already being accepted for the car and an online configurator has been launched, however, this dream will come at a very high price.
Key features of the car
The car is named after the current head and former boss of Alpina, Andreas Bovensiepen, whose father founded Alpina in 1965. This model was first presented at the Villa d’Este concours d’elegance last year, and a few months later it demonstrated its dynamics on the hill at the Goodwood Festival of Speed.
Exclusive design and astronomical price
Style is undoubtedly the main selling point of this car, if potential buyers can accept its staggering price of 369,495 euros. For comparison, a standard BMW M4 in Germany starts at 98,500 euros, and the Competition version starts at 109,600 euros. This means the Bovensiepen Zagato costs almost as much as four regular M4s.
This is a very stylish car, but its price of 369,495 euros is truly impressive.

Collaboration with Zagato and design details
The car was developed in collaboration with the legendary Italian atelier Zagato. It is a heavily modified BMW M4 with a radically new front end, whose shapes may remind one of the 2019 Chevrolet Camaro. BMW enthusiasts will likely notice similarities with the i8 hybrid sports car, especially in the reverse-scoop hood and the shape of the rear wings.
The car is fitted with over 400 new parts, including a full set of carbon fiber body panels. This process takes over 250 hours. The Bovensiepen name can be seen on the nose and above the rear license plate, while the Zagato name is represented only by small badges on the front wings and, of course, the famous double-bubble roof.
Interior: Luxury, but with a familiar face
However, stepping inside, one might feel a slight disappointment. Undoubtedly, the optional Lavalina leather interior trim and numerous customization options far exceed what BMW offers. But overall, the interior remains recognizable — it is an enhanced version of the cabin from the regular 4 Series.
Technical specifications and exclusivity
The Bovensiepen company does not disclose in detail which specific base BMW model the car is built on, but according to the presentation, the donor was the M4 Competition with its 8-speed automatic transmission. Power is increased from 530 hp to 611 hp, aided in part by a lightweight titanium Akrapovic exhaust system.
The main difference from the series-production M4 Competition is exclusivity. While an M4 can be seen in any major city, only 99 units of the Bovensiepen Zagato will be produced at the former Alpina headquarters in Buchloe, Germany.
The creation of the Bovensiepen Zagato demonstrates how the former masters of Alpina combine their legacy of subtle BMW tuning with the exclusivity of Italian design. This is not a car for the mass market, but for collectors seeking uniqueness and history embodied in metal and carbon fiber. Its appearance also highlights a trend where small but authoritative ateliers fill the niche between mass-production manufacturers and completely hand-built exotics, offering clients something in between — a series-production base with an individual, limited character.
