The experimental Jaguar Type 00 impressed, but the production GT looks like a step back

Jaguar is preparing the premiere of its electric GT sedan for September

Jaguar is finally approaching the home stretch in creating its long-awaited electric GT. After the presentation of the outrageous Type 00 concept, which was supposed to demonstrate the future flagship electric car, the latest prototypes show that the production version will be more restrained, but still an impressive four-door model.

Design: from concept to reality

New renderings created by Nikita Chuiko for Kolesa show a softened approach to the front of the car. Instead of the concept’s dramatic light signature, the production version will feature more conventional LED headlights and a cleaner, familiar nose where traditional grilles would normally be located. Signature style elements, such as the illuminated Jaguar badge, will remain, but the bumper will lose its conceptual aggressiveness in favor of smoother lines.

The sides of the car have also become smoother and softer. Instead of the Type 00’s sharp shoulder line, clean door panels are used here. Like the Porsche Taycan, charging ports appear on the front fenders, along with flush door handles. The rear of the car gets a simple full-width LED light bar. Interestingly, rumors suggest the production model might not have a rear window at all, although it is present in the renderings.

It is worth noting that the GT prototypes have widened front and rear fenders, as well as sharper details that are absent in these illustrations.

Interior and technical specifications

Recently, we saw the car’s interior for the first time. The driver sits in a cockpit framed by a high center console and low-mounted seats. The cabin features clean lines, and the new steering wheel resembles concepts from the 1970s. The dashboard is minimalist, with a curved screen and a digital instrument panel.

Powertrain and price

The car will feature a large battery pack with a capacity of 120 kWh, which is expected to provide a range of around 700 km on the WLTP cycle. Ultra-fast charging will be supported: 200 km of range can be replenished in just 15 minutes.

Power will be provided by three electric motors. Their combined output is expected to exceed 986 hp and 1300 Nm of torque. While this is not exotic by modern standards, Jaguar promises genuine dynamics despite the car’s significant weight (up to 2700 kg).

Jaguar states that acceleration to 100 km/h will take around three seconds, the top speed will be 250 km/h, and the peak charging power will be 350 kW. The price is expected to start at approximately $160,000, with sales beginning in 2027.

Summary and context

Although the production Jaguar GT looks more restrained than its Type 00 concept, it still promises to be a technological breakthrough for the brand. The combination of immense power, substantial range, and luxurious design aims to bring Jaguar back into the game in the premium electric vehicle segment. However, given the high competition from Porsche, Lucid, and other manufacturers, the model’s success will depend not only on its specifications but also on how successfully Jaguar can blend its heritage with the demands of the modern market. The $160,000 price tag places it alongside the most exclusive electric models, making a bet on image and uniqueness rather than mass sales.
