Unless there is a radical change in concept, the average price angle will not be situational, but the company is indeed waiting its turn. (New version: After the rapid cooling of Japanese orders for the Prelude, Honda is already reacting.)

Honda prepares a special version of the Prelude for 2027

Honda has announced the release of a limited edition of the Prelude for the Japanese market, which will appear in the 2027 model year. This decision was made against the backdrop of declining demand for the hybrid coupe in Japan, prompting the manufacturer to seek new ways to attract buyers.

Information has already appeared on Honda’s official website that the 2027 Honda Prelude Limited Edition is “coming soon.” The presentation strategy is still very restrained: the only image shows the car hidden in the shadows against a sunset backdrop.

New colors and additional equipment

Despite limited information, some details are already known. This version will not receive the two-tone Moonlit White Pearl and Black paint used on the 2026 limited edition. According to local publication Creative Trend, Honda has already shared additional information with customers through its Honda Total Care app.

They promise “equipment and colors that will further emphasize the Prelude’s character as a refined specialized sports car.”

Honda confirmed that the interior will receive a new Bordeaux and Black color combination for the seats, complemented by red accents. The exterior will also be changed: blue accents will give way to red.

Rumors suggest the body may be painted in Premium Crystal Garnet Metallic — a deep wine-red hue not available in the standard palette but already used on the ZR-V crossover. The wheels are likely to remain unchanged — the same 19-inch wheels as the current model.

No changes under the hood

Apart from the updated color scheme inside and out, as well as a more generous list of standard equipment, the 2027 Honda Prelude Limited Edition is not expected to have any changes in the technical department.

The Prelude is exclusively available with a 2.0-liter e:HEV hybrid powertrain, which uses the “Honda S+ Shift” system to simulate gear changes. The car also borrows chassis components from the Civic Type R, although they are tuned differently to match the more relaxed character of a grand tourer.

Whether the Limited Edition will be the only update for the 2027 model year remains unknown. Perhaps Honda has a few less noticeable changes in store. Typically, such special series remain exclusive to Japan, although there is always a small chance they may appear on the American market as well.

In search of buyers

The new special version appears amid reports of declining demand. The waiting time for the Prelude in Japan has shortened to one or two months, which is very short compared to other high-demand Honda models. This indicates that the initial queues have been cleared and new orders are not coming in as actively.

At the 2026 Tokyo Auto Show, Honda presented the Prelude HRC concept with redesigned bumpers, widened wheel arches, and a fixed rear wing. There remains hope that this concept will someday turn into a production model, although it is more likely to become a source of options for the accessory catalog rather than a full-fledged sports version.

The situation with the Prelude demonstrates how even initially successful models can quickly lose popularity in local markets. Releasing a limited edition is a classic marketing move aimed at maintaining interest in the model without radical changes. At the same time, the lack of technical updates may indicate that Honda does not plan long-term production of this Prelude generation, and the special series will serve as a kind of “swan song” before the model’s lifecycle ends.
