How Coronavirus and Quarantine Affected Ukrainian Drivers

After the introduction of quarantine in Ukraine, having a car became a very advantageous asset. Especially in those localities where public transport was stopped or significant restrictions were imposed on its movement.

Of course, drivers are in a winning situation (thank God, while they do not restrict movement by car), but they still had to adjust. We decided to analyze how the lives of drivers have changed.

1. Cars began to be washed more often. And interiors are wiped down too.

Queues at car washes have grown. As they say, disinfection is everything. We already wrote to you about how to properly treat the car interior.

2. Traffic in cities has changed. On one hand, the center of Kyiv is empty for the first time in many years.

On the other, traffic jams during peak hours have become even worse in some places, as many still need to commute to work by car or taxi.

3. Speaking of taxis – now taxi drivers can choose whom to drive and for how much. Although conscientious drivers transport, for example, medical workers to work for free.

4. For the first time in many years, sprinklers have appeared on city streets. Roads in Ukraine have probably not been washed since the 90s.

Of course, now they are also disinfected.

5. The patrol police stop cars more frequently, especially at the entry points to populated areas. They measure the temperature of drivers and passengers. Control is also strengthened at borders.

6. The Ukrainian car market switches to standby mode due to quarantine in the Ministry of Internal Affairs service centers.

While new cars can be registered remotely (misfortune helped), used cars cannot be registered. And you cannot clear a car through customs now.

7. Now for the unpleasant: the epidemic and the escalation of the situation may increase the number of drunk drivers. In Zakarpattia, a violator has already confessed that he drank because of the coronavirus.

Moreover, “smart ones” will be found explaining the smell of alcohol in the cabin by using alcohol-based hand sanitizer. Or not removing the mask for an alcohol test due to fear of getting infected.

8.

Criminals have become more active – in recent days, there have been more cases of wheel theft. It is not surprising: many Ukrainians stayed home, and cars are left idle in yards all day and night.
