by The rivalry between Porsche and Xiaomi at the Nürburgring continues unabated, and the Chinese company appears ready to deliver a decisive blow. These fresh spy photos show that Xiaomi is preparing an even more extreme version of the SU7 Ultra, which could be named Ultra Extreme.
Battle for the Nürburgring record
Initially, the Porsche Taycan Turbo GT held the Nürburgring lap record for premium production electric vehicles until the SU7 Ultra left it behind. A few months ago, Porsche finally introduced the long-awaited Manthey Kit for its flagship Taycan and confidently reclaimed the crown.
Unwilling to let the German competitors enjoy the moment, Xiaomi is developing a new powerful SU7, which was first spotted at the Nürburgring.
Aerodynamic changes
The aerodynamics of the electric sedan have been completely redesigned. The changes start at the front, where a new bumper, air intakes, and a splitter with aggressive fins for directing air around the wheels have appeared. Additionally, the car has received louvers on the front wheel arches and a hood similar to that of the original SU7 Ultra prototype.
The rear of the car looks even more extreme than the front. Xiaomi’s engineers seem to have carefully studied the Porsche 911 GT3 RS and decided that its massive rear wing would look excellent on a four-door car. This huge element has a bi-plane design with swan-neck stands and may even be equipped with an active DRS system. A new diffuser peeks out from under the bright yellow camouflage, and an aggressive diffuser adds even more downforce.
Will there be more power?
It is too early to say whether the car will receive a power increase. The existing SU7 Ultra produces 1,548 hp thanks to three electric motors, but about 18 months ago, Xiaomi introduced a four-motor platform capable of developing up to 2,054 hp. This setup could debut in a flagship two-door coupe and may also appear on the SU7. Even if this doesn’t happen and the power remains at the level of the standard Ultra version, the aerodynamic changes alone should significantly improve the lap time at the Nürburgring. Will that be enough to beat Porsche? Hopefully, we won’t have to wait long for an answer.
This confrontation resembles a classic technology race, where every new step by competitors demands an immediate response. Xiaomi, originally known as a smartphone manufacturer, is now seriously making its mark in the automotive industry, challenging giants like Porsche. The use of solutions inspired by the 911 GT3 RS indicates that the company is not just copying but adapting the best engineering practices for its electric vehicles. If the new SU7 Ultra Extreme can break the record of the Taycan Turbo GT Manthey, it will be a powerful signal to the entire market about a shift in the balance of power in the world of high-performance electric vehicles.
