Until the end of the preferential customs clearance period for cars with European registration in Ukraine, there is one day left. Starting from Saturday, the 50% excise discount will no longer be provided. In the Cabinet, the first results have been summed up on this occasion.
Customs clearance of cars with European registration breaks records
As Deputy Finance Minister Serhiy Verlanov stated, from November 25 to February 19, 195.2 thousand vehicles were cleared in Ukraine. Of these, almost 124 thousand are cars with European registration.
By the way, according to government estimates, about 640,000 ‘euro-number’ cars are in our country. The budget during this time received 12 billion hryvnias in payments. Owners of 106.7 thousand cars paid an 8500 hryvnias fine for customs rules violations. Also, the Acting Deputy Head of the SFS, Viktor Kryvitsky, reported where more ‘euro-number’ cars were cleared:
Kyiv – 20,866 cars
Volyn region – 14,652
Zakarpattia region – 10,867
Lviv region – 10,198
Chernivtsi region – 9,995
The preferential customs clearance period will not be extended
The Verkhovna Rada still did not vote to extend the validity of the excise discount. This decision was supported by both the relevant parliamentary committee and the government.
However, in the last days of the preferential period, customs offices switched to a round-the-clock work schedule, so there is still a chance for owners of cars with foreign registration to make it. Declarations are accepted until 23:59 on February 22. Especially since customs officers are very productive now: just on January 19, 9,028 cars received Ukrainian numbers. The SFS admits that the rush will subside from February 23, although a certain number of those wishing to clear their car will remain. So until the end of the transitional period (which is May 23), there will be work for customs officers.
How to avoid a fine for an uncleared car
And then owners of cars with European registration will start being fined, and quite seriously. It could reach 170,000 hryvnias. The SFS understands, of course, that it’s not profitable for everyone to clear ‘euro-number’ cars. That is why Viktor Kryvitsky recommends either taking the car with foreign numbers abroad or handing it in for dismantling. In principle, many Ukrainians have already started getting rid of such cars.
