Lincoln Corsair returns as a hybrid, but in Mandarin

Lincoln Corsair Returns: A New Hybrid Crossover from China for the US in 2027

Lincoln sales have dropped sharply after discontinuing the original Corsair model, but this situation is likely temporary. The company is preparing the return of the popular crossover, but with new features and a new production location.

Updated Design and Chinese Roots

Last March, spy photographers captured an updated version of the Chinese Corsair. The prototype received a new grille with a distinct mesh pattern, as well as an illuminated bar and Lincoln logo. The crossover also had a modified front bumper and a camouflaged rear section. While such changes usually indicate a facelift, the presence of yellow lights hinted that the vehicle was intended for the American market.

Confirmation from NHTSA and Technical Specifications

Today we received more evidence of this. Car & Driver magazine found a document from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) confirming the release of the 2027 Corsair. The model will be produced at the company’s plant in Chongqing, China, and will be available in Premiere and Reserve trims.

According to the document, the crossover will have standard all-wheel drive and a hybrid powertrain with a turbocharged 2.0-liter engine. This is interesting because the Chinese model offers a turbocharged 2.0-liter engine with 255 hp, as well as a hybrid version with a turbocharged 1.5-liter four-cylinder engine.

Since neither of these options fits, it is believed that the American version may use the powertrain from the larger Nautilus Hybrid. It includes a turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine with a total output of 285 hp.

Interior and Equipment: Chinese Luxury

Little is known about the 2027 Corsair so far, but the Chinese model is significantly more luxurious than what we are used to seeing in the US. It features a high-tech cabin with a 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster and a 27-inch panoramic display that combines the infotainment system and a screen for the front passenger.

Other features include 24-way power-adjustable front seats with heating, ventilation, and massage, upholstered in semi-aniline leather, as well as heated rear seats that recline up to 12 degrees. Adaptive interior ambient lighting and a Revel audio system with 14 speakers are also available.

Chinese Lincoln Corsair

The return of the Corsair to the American market is a strategic move for Lincoln, allowing the company to regain its position in the rapidly growing compact crossover segment. Production in China and the use of hybrid technology from the Nautilus indicate a desire to optimize costs and offer a competitive price. At the same time, borrowing the luxurious interior from the Chinese version could be a significant advantage, as American buyers will get a car with premium features that were previously unavailable in this market. Thus, the new Corsair may not only fill a gap in the lineup but also become a more attractive offering than its predecessor.
