Record Price for a Ferrari F50
A Ferrari F50 was sold at auction for a record $9.245 million, significantly exceeding previous estimates of $6.5–7.5 million. This car is one of two examples produced in Giallo Modena color, making it exceptionally rare.
This automobile was initially owned by the famous designer Ralph Lauren, who kept it until 2003. After that, it was purchased by a couple from Virginia, who barely used the car and had not shown it publicly since 2009.
This is one of 55 Ferrari F50s built for the US market and one of two in Giallo Modena color.
Technical Condition and History
Prior to the sale, the car underwent a full technical service, including the replacement of the fuel tank, brake components, and tires. The Ferrari also received a Ferrari Classiche certificate, confirming the originality of all parts. The mileage is less than 5,400 miles.
Although the F50 was previously not considered as iconic a model as the F40 or Enzo, demand for such cars has surged in recent years. Its uniqueness lies in the use of a naturally aspirated V12 engine inspired by Formula-1 power units.
The previous F50 sales record was $5.532 million for an example with only 1,351 miles on the odometer. The current deal confirms the growing value of such cars among collectors, especially when they are preserved in excellent condition and have historical significance.
