Ford Unveils Limited Edition Mustang Dark Horse T8-Spec for Australia
Ford’s Australian division has announced the release of a special version of the Mustang Dark Horse coupe for the 2026 model year. The model is named T8-Spec, and its development was carried out in collaboration with engineers from the Triple Eight Race Engineering team, which manages Ford’s racing program in the V8 Supercars series. The total production run of the car is limited to just 250 units.
Exterior and Interior of the Special Version
Externally, the car is easily recognizable by its aggressive aerodynamic body kit. It features a large rear spoiler with a Grabber Blue-colored Gurney flap and a massive front splitter. The latter, however, is intended exclusively for track use, so it will have to be installed independently after purchase to avoid violating road regulations. The body is adorned with Triple Eight logos.
The interior is equipped with Recaro sport seats with indigo-colored bolsters, special plaques have appeared on the sills, and there is also a branded gear shift lever and a numbered plaque confirming the limited production run.
Technical Updates and Specifications
The main changes concern the chassis. The T8-Spec model received stiffer springs, recalibrated MagneRide dampers, thicker anti-roll bars, and adjustable strut mounts. Furthermore, the car comes standard with 19-inch alloy wheels fitted with wider Pirelli P Zero Trofeo RS tires.
The name T8-Spec comes from Triple Eight Race Engineering, the team that developed these modifications.
The powertrain remains unchanged – it is the naturally aspirated 5.0-liter Coyote V8 engine. In accordance with Australian emission standards, its power is 469 hp, and torque is 550 Nm. The only available transmission is a six-speed manual gearbox, which, via a Torsen limited-slip differential, sends power to the rear axle. The ten-speed automatic remains the prerogative of the standard Dark Horse version.
Price and Availability
The special version is significantly more expensive than the base model. The starting price of a regular Dark Horse in Australia is 104,990 Australian dollars, while the T8-Spec will cost 138,888 Australian dollars. This is a difference of almost 34 thousand dollars, placing the model in the premium segment for factory Mustangs in the region.
For comparison, in the US, the Mustang Dark Horse with the Handling Package costs significantly less than the Australian T8-Spec.
Overall, for the Australian market in 2026, 500 standard Dark Horse units and 250 T8-Spec units will be produced. Deliveries of the base model will begin in late 2026, while T8-Spec owners will have to wait longer, as each car will undergo additional outfitting at the Ford factory in Broadmeadows, Melbourne.
This launch demonstrates Ford’s strategy of creating exclusive, localized products for specific markets, especially where there is a strong V8 and racing culture. The limited production run and collaboration with the legendary racing team transform the T8-Spec from an ordinary muscle car into a collector’s item for enthusiasts willing to pay a premium for uniqueness and the track experience of Triple Eight engineers. This approach also highlights how different the offerings and prices for what seems to be the same model can be in different corners of the world.
