A terrifying video captured the moment a Jaguar sports car crashed into the rear of a school bus in Lee County, Florida. Fortunately, the bus was empty. The Jaguar went so deep under the bus’s rear overhang that the car almost completely disappeared beneath it. The sight was catastrophic. And yet, the driver somehow walked away from the impact with only minor injuries.
Event Details and Aftermath
The accident occurred at 8:50 a.m. on February 18. A dark blue Jaguar F-Type S convertible was traveling on US 41 when its driver failed to react in time to a school bus stopped in the right lane.
Footage shot by a witness shows the two-seater car almost vanishing from view, wedged under the bus’s long rear overhang like a crumpled metal wedge. Photos taken from another angle reveal the full severity of the damage: the right side of the Jaguar is almost flattened, and the hood and fabric convertible top are torn off like a tin can.
The impact was so powerful that the bus’s rear wheels lifted off the ground. This is not what you expect to see in a collision between a low-slung sports car and a vehicle of such size.
The safety of our students on their way to and from school is our number one priority. This video is incredibly difficult to watch, and I thank God there were no students on the bus and no one sustained serious injuries. I can assure you that our patrols have increased their presence in this area and will not tolerate any irresponsible driving.
Fortunate Coincidence and Reaction
Fortunately for the driver, the bus’s rear bumper stopped just centimeters from the Jaguar’s cabin, leaving barely enough room for survival. It is also worth noting that the Jaguar was not traveling at very high speed, and the accident could have been avoided if the driver had braked sharply or performed an evasive maneuver.
According to the San Carlos Park Fire Department, which arrived at the scene, both the bus driver and the Jaguar driver received assistance for minor injuries.
The most crucial detail, however, is who was not on the bus. At the time of the accident, there were no students inside. Under these circumstances, this fact alone likely prevented a much more tragic outcome.
A witness who spoke with ABC 7 stated that they “saw kids walking to the bus 15 minutes before it happened,” calling the situation “horrible.” Another witness said she gave the driver ice because he had hurt his pinky finger and was “a little dazed.”
This case clearly demonstrates how quickly a situation on the road can change and how important it is to be extremely attentive, especially near school buses and in areas where children may be present. The fact that there were no children on the bus is a true miracle and allows this accident to be viewed as a warning, not a tragedy. At the same time, the structural strength of modern cars, even low ones like sports coupes, has once again confirmed its ability to protect lives even in seemingly fatal scenarios. The reaction of law enforcement agencies, which promised to increase patrols, is also an important preventive measure for the future.
