Updated Nissan Teana for the Chinese Market
While the Nissan Altima for the American market has uncertain prospects, its Chinese “twin,” the Teana, is preparing for an update. The model, produced by the joint venture between Nissan and Dongfeng, has received a facelift that resembles the style of the brand’s new electric sedans.
There is no official confirmation from the company yet, but images of the updated Teana have already appeared in the database of China’s Ministry of Industry and Information Technology.
Design Changes
The most noticeable changes are to the front end: the LED headlights have become darker, the grille is wider, and the bumper has a more massive lower opening. The side profile remains almost unchanged, but new wheel designs have appeared. The rear now features LED taillights that stretch across the entire trunk, and the exhaust pipes are hidden.
Thanks to the updated design, the car’s length has increased by 14 mm, reaching 4920 mm. Other dimensions, including the wheelbase (2825 mm), remain the same. The interior has not been revealed yet, but it is expected to receive an updated digital instrument panel.
Technical Features
The most powerful version of the Teana retains the turbocharged 2.0-liter engine producing 240 hp, paired with a CVT. However, the documents also mention a new base version with a 142 hp engine, which is less than the current naturally aspirated 2.0-liter unit (154 hp).
The updated Teana will appear on the Chinese market this year. Its price will start from ¥179,800 ($25,000).
As for the American Altima, its future remains uncertain. The current generation has already received an update, but the question of a possible discontinuation remains open. If the model is updated, it is unclear whether it will inherit the features of the Chinese Teana or take its own path in design.
The update of the Teana indicates that Nissan continues to invest in traditional models for key markets, even in a world gradually transitioning to electric vehicles. The Chinese market, where demand for sedans remains high, is getting a more modern option, while in the US, the future of such models remains questionable.
