New Volkswagen Electric Model for Chinese Market Gets Glowing Emblem with Wolf Image

Electric Crossover Premiere

Volkswagen has unveiled the production version of the ID.EVO concept for 2025 in China. The new model has been named the ID. Unyx 08 and has retained the key features of the concept car. The electric crossover is 5 meters long and will be offered with single- and dual-motor powertrains with a range of up to 435 miles.

From Concept to Series

Six months after the debut of the ID.EVO at the 2025 Shanghai Auto Show, Volkswagen has released photos of the production version named the ID. Unyx 08. This fully electric crossover will go on sale next year as the newest member of Volkswagen’s continuously expanding lineup in China.

Joint Development

The ID. Unyx 08 is a product of the Volkswagen Anhui joint venture between JAC Motors and the German brand. The exterior design is almost identical to the concept, with smooth surfaces, frameless doors, blacked-out A-pillars, tinted rear wings, and distinctive LEDs placed very close to the VW emblem. An interesting feature is the illuminated wolf badge on the third brake light under the rear spoiler.

Differences from the Concept

A direct comparison reveals minor changes for series production, including slightly different headlights and rear lights, shut lines on the hood and rear doors, visible ADAS sensors, flush door handles, and minor refinements on the front bumper and rear diffuser. In one of the photos, the crossover is riding on the concept’s forged five-spoke wheels with copper diamond coating and Brembo brake calipers.

Interior and Technologies

Volkswagen has not yet released interior photos but has stated that the model will be equipped with artificial intelligence and will offer Level L2++ ADAS. Like the vast majority of Chinese-made electric cars, a large infotainment display in the middle of the dashboard and a smaller digital instrument cluster are expected.

Dimensions and Comparison

The crossover has a length of 5000 mm, a width of 1954 mm, and a height of 1668 mm with a wheelbase of 3030 mm. This makes it 318 mm longer than the American Tiguan and 101 mm shorter than the Atlas, although its wheelbase is even larger.

Technical Specifications

Unlike some competitors that offer a range-extender powertrain option, the ID. Unyx 08 will be exclusively available in a fully electric form. It is built on an 800V architecture and will be offered with single- and dual-motor electric setups with a promised CLTC standard range of over 700 km.

Power and Battery

According to data from China’s Ministry of Industry and Information Technology, the rear motor produces 308 hp, and the front unit adds another 188 hp, resulting in a combined 496 hp in the all-wheel-drive version. Energy will be supplied by a lithium-iron-phosphate battery from CATL of unknown capacity.

Place in the Lineup

When it hits the roads in 2026, the ID. Unyx 08 will become the third model in the growing Volkswagen Anhui lineup, alongside the smaller ID. Unyx 06 crossover, which is based on the Cupra Tavascan, and the ID. Unyx 07 sedan. Soon it will be joined by another electric sedan with a similar design, which will share a platform with the Xpeng P7.

Development Plans

Overall, Volkswagen will launch 30 new models through its joint ventures in China, 20 of which will be electrified.

The creation of the ID. Unyx 08 demonstrates the growing importance of the Chinese market for Volkswagen and the brand’s ability to quickly adapt to local preferences. The use of the 800V architecture and high battery density shows how competitive the Chinese electric vehicle market has become, where local manufacturers are constantly raising the bar for technology and performance.
