Stellantis’s new concept helps lost dogs find their way home

Peugeot has unveiled the E-5008 Dog Edition concept, created specifically for dog owners. This vehicle was developed taking into account how dogs perceive travel.

Design and comfort features

The concept features a special interior color palette inspired by canine vision. Since dogs only distinguish certain colors, designers combined calming shades of blue with more stimulating yellow accents. Soft, non-slip materials were also used to enhance the animal’s comfort.

Innovative equipment

One of the most interesting features is a modular mat that serves multiple purposes. It can be installed on the rear seats or in the trunk, where it acts as a protective cover and fur collector. Upon arrival at the destination, the mat can be easily transformed into a dog bed.

For dogs that like to stick their heads out the window, Peugeot created a special headrest. This is a soft yellow pillow that attaches to the window, allowing the dog to comfortably rest while watching the scenery.

Additional accessories

The concept is equipped with various accessories, including built-in bowls, bags, and a connected harness. There is also a special dog toy and a pet dryer that operates using V2L technology, stored under the trunk floor.

Intelligent features

The navigation system offers charging stations located near parks or walking areas. The concept has a “Dog Retriever” function, which allows the car to emit a specific sound to call a lost dog, recognize it upon return, and facilitate its re-entry into the vehicle.

A “Dog Guardian Mode” is also provided. It allows for quick stops at the store, as the car will maintain a comfortable temperature in the cabin and allow for remote monitoring.

Prospects and statistics

Although the concept will not go into mass production, Peugeot notes that over 50% of large SUV owners have a dog, and 64% of dog owners plan to vacation with their pet.

This concept demonstrates a growing trend in the automotive industry, where manufacturers are paying increasing attention to the needs of pets. While mass production of such models is not yet planned, similar developments could influence future production vehicles, especially in the SUV segment. Given that Stellantis has already launched the Mopaw brand for pet accessories, some of these ideas can be expected to appear in production models over time.
