New BMW iX5 M could make the petrol X5 M weaker

Spy photos: new BMW iX5 M spotted

Photo spies have managed to capture a new BMW X5 and iX5 prototype, and they now claim to have stumbled upon the iX5 M version. While it’s hard to be 100% sure, this model looks significantly more aggressive than previous prototypes.

Aggressive design and Neue Klasse

As seen in the images, the crossover is styled in the Neue Klasse aesthetic and appears to have a similar grille and headlights to the standard models. However, it features a significantly more aggressive lower air intake with larger openings and sharp lines. A central air intake covered by a mesh panel is also noticeable.

Sporty elements and powerful braking system

Sporty traits are also visible at the rear: the prototype is equipped with lightweight five-spoke wheels. They are shod in Michelin Pilot Sport tires and complemented by a powerful braking system with ventilated discs and massive front calipers.

The rear end looks rather restrained in this context, but narrow taillights and a pronounced spoiler can be seen. The model also features angled rear glass and a recessed license plate holder.

Technical specifications and power

Not much is known about this crossover yet, but EPA documents suggest that the iX5 60 will get a huge 147.8 kWh battery pack, as well as a dual-motor all-wheel drive system producing 569 hp (424 kW) and 805 Nm of torque. An 800-volt electrical architecture and fast DC charging are also expected.

This leaves many questions regarding the iX5 M’s power output, but there are already rumors about an iX7 M70 with over 800 hp (597 kW). Of course, we will get a clearer picture after the debut of the standard model.

Baldauf

Given that the iX5 60 will already have 569 hp, the M version could be a real breakthrough in the electric BMW lineup. It is expected to not only surpass the power figures but also feature improved suspension and aerodynamics, making it one of the fastest electric crossovers on the market. Competition in this segment is growing, and BMW seems to be preparing a worthy response.
