Porsche’s New GEN4 Aims for the Championship Title in Formula E

Porsche has unveiled its race car for the new generation of Formula E, which will start in the 2026/2027 season. The car, named the 975 RSE, looks futuristic and promises to significantly increase performance compared to its predecessors.

Key Characteristics of the New Generation

The fourth generation of Formula E race cars, the so-called GEN4, will bring a number of revolutionary changes. The main technical specifications will be unified for all teams:

In normal race mode, power will be limited to 604 hp. The new all-wheel-drive system and improved tires are expected to ensure efficient transfer of this power to the track.

Technological Breakthroughs and Design

In addition to impressive power figures, the new race cars will have several other important technological advantages. A regenerative braking system on both axles will allow for the recovery of up to 700 kW of energy. Support for ultra-fast charging with a power of up to 600 kW will also be introduced.

However, the first thing that catches the eye is the radical design. The Porsche 975 RSE resembles a concept car from a science fiction movie. The front section is completely redesigned: a new nose cone, a complex multi-level splitter, and intricate aerodynamic elements in front of the front wheels. Aerodynamics are optimized along the entire side, and a flat wing is installed at the rear. It is important to note that the shown livery is a test one, and the car’s appearance may change somewhat before the start of the season.

Porsche’s Position and Future Expectations

Porsche approaches the introduction of the new race car from a position of leadership. Midway through the current 2025/2026 season, the team leads both the drivers’ and constructors’ championships. This success is based on previous victories: Porsche won the teams’ championship in the 2024-2025 season, and their driver Pascal became champion in the 2023-2024 season.

Expectations for the new car are high. Porsche factory driver Nico Müller noted:

The 975 RSE and its competitors are a huge step forward for the sport. I like how aggressively you can drive now. Especially in qualifying, when everyone is pushing to the limit, it should be spectacular – particularly due to the powerful acceleration out of corners. I’m glad I was involved in the simulator work from the very beginning. Pascal and I share testing duties. This is good because it allows us to precisely tailor the 975 RSE to our needs.

The transition to GEN4 will mark a new era for Formula E, where technology, speed, and spectacle will come to the forefront. Increased power, improved aerodynamics, and regeneration capabilities will not only make the cars themselves faster but will also make the races even more dynamic and unpredictable for viewers. Porsche’s success in recent seasons gives them a solid foundation, but new technology is always a challenge and an opportunity for other teams to level the playing field, promising intense competition in the championship.
