New Lexus Supercar Spotted in California Without Rear Wing

Lexus Prepares New LFR Supercar

The world has been waiting for a successor to the legendary LFA for many years, and now the new model called the LFR is nearing series production. It will be the road-going version of the GT3 race car being developed to replace the RC F GT3.

Recently, an LFR prototype was spotted testing on the famous Angeles Crest Highway in California. The car was following a first-generation Mercedes-AMG GT 63 S, accompanied by two Toyota Sequoias. Although this road is perfect for testing, it is frequently visited by auto enthusiasts, so the appearance of the prototype did not go unnoticed.

The design of the prototype is similar to previously seen versions, especially the long hood, short rear end, and large air intakes. Interestingly, this version lacks a fixed rear wing, only a small spoiler.

Power and Prospects

Lexus has decided not to downsize the engine for its new flagship. Instead, the LFR will get a twin-turbo V8 that Toyota is developing for its GT3 race car. Although this engine won’t be able to replicate the sound of the naturally aspirated 5.0-liter V8 or the unique V10 from the LFA, its power will be significantly higher.

The turbocharged V8 will be supplemented by an electric motor, likely on the front axle. The total output could reach 800 hp, making it a competitor to the Mercedes-AMG GT 63 S E Performance. Details remain secret for now, but Lexus will undoubtedly begin an active marketing campaign as the release approaches.

Development of the new supercar continues, and its approach to series production promises interesting announcements in the coming months. Given the legacy of the LFA, expectations for the LFR are extremely high, and Lexus appears ready to meet them.
