This rare Spyker is one of only two examples painted in a shade of red. Originally a Spyder, it was later converted into a Laviolette coupe. Under the hood is a 4.2-liter naturally aspirated V8 producing 400 horsepower, sending torque to the rear wheels.
The Return of a Legend and a Unique Sale
After Spyker went bankrupt several years ago, the company is preparing for a revival, planning to reintroduce the Preliator model with a twin-turbocharged V8 engine. Perhaps partly due to renewed interest and attention to the brand, a particularly striking example was just sold in the United States for $670,000.
Details of the Unique Car
Among classic Spyker models, it is hard to find one more spectacular than this. It concerns a 2006 C8 Laviolette, sold in Scottsdale, Arizona, with a mere 2,100 miles (3,379 km) on the odometer. Painted in a bright red color, it is one of only two Spykers ever painted in this shade.
The listing on Bring a Trailer states that the car was originally built as a Spyder. However, in 2007 in Florida, Spyker converted it into a Laviolette coupe. The car is completely original, except that it has been updated with a four-spoke propeller steering wheel from later C8 models and LED taillights installed by leading Spyker expert Jasper den Dopper.
Design and Interior
The exterior looks flawless, and the red color contrasts beautifully with the chrome 19-inch wheels, chrome accents on the side air intakes, as well as silver pillars and a roof scoop. Except for Pagani, no other niche automaker has created interiors that look as exquisite as those in a Spyker. Trimmed in beige leather, the cabin of this C8 is particularly striking.
Powertrain
As for power, the C8 Laviolette uses a mid-mounted 4.2-liter V8 engine from Audi producing 400 hp and 354 lb-ft (480 Nm) of torque. This engine was removed in 2025 as part of major servicing and is paired with a six-speed manual transmission driving the rear wheels. While one can get much more power for this money, it is not easy to find a car that combines performance with such style as this one does.
This sale highlights not only the rarity of the model but also the enduring interest in the Spyker brand, which, despite financial difficulties, remains a symbol of exclusivity and unique design. The $670,000 price tag shows that collectors are willing to pay a premium for true rarities, especially those with such history and low mileage. The company’s revival with a new V8 engine could further fuel interest in its legacy, making classic models like this even more desirable in the future.
