New ORA 7 from Great Wall Motor: a design that sparks controversy
Chinese automaker Great Wall Motor has unveiled a new model, the ORA 7, which has already attracted attention with its controversial design. Official images and technical specifications were released by China’s Ministry of Industry and Information Technology. The new electric vehicle combines features of two well-known German brands — Volkswagen and Porsche.
Two body styles: wagon and sedan
The ORA 7 will be available in two body variants: wagon and sedan. The wagon features a front end reminiscent of the Volkswagen Beetle, with a sloping hood and round headlights. These are complemented by a narrow air intake and a geometric pattern on the bumper. The beltline and window design evoke associations with the Porsche Cayenne. Designers have also added smooth body contours, a gently sloping roof, and a charging port on the front fender. The car will be available with 18-inch and 19-inch wheel rims.
The rear of the wagon looks more restrained but features teardrop-shaped taillights, a rear windshield wiper, a spoiler, and a simple bumper.
The sedan, on the other hand, has a sportier roofline and upper body structure that resembles older Panamera models. Instead of a hatch, it is equipped with a small trunk, and the rear wiper is absent.
Dimensions and technical specifications
According to MIIT data, both versions have the same wheelbase — 113 inches (2870 mm). However, the length differs: the wagon measures 190 inches (4820 mm), while the sedan is 192.5 inches (4890 mm). The sedan’s roof is 0.7 inches (17 mm) lower.
Regarding the powertrain, the ORA 7 will feature a lithium iron phosphate battery that powers electric motors with outputs of 201 hp (150 kW) and 215 hp (160 kW). The car’s maximum speed will be up to 112 mph (180 km/h).
Thus, the new ORA 7 continues the brand’s tradition of creating vehicles with a striking appearance that leaves no one indifferent. The combination of styles from different eras and brands is likely to evoke both admiration and criticism. At the same time, the technical specifications, including the availability of two body variants and different engines, make the model quite versatile for various customer needs. It remains to wait for the official launch and first test drives to assess how successful this design experiment has turned out and whether it can conquer the market.
