First Look at the New BMW iX4 Coupe SUV

New Coupe SUV from BMW

BMW engineers are actively testing a prototype of the new coupe SUV, which is expected to be named iX4. This model will become part of the Neue Klasse family and will inherit the platform and interior from the future iX3.

End of the X4 Era

Production of the current BMW X4, which was equipped with internal combustion engines, will end this month. Instead, the company is preparing an electric replacement – the iX4, which will become a sportier counterpart to the iX3.

Exterior and Design

The first camouflaged prototypes have already undergone testing. The front of the iX4 is almost identical to the iX3: the same headlights, kidney grille, bumper, and hood. However, starting from the B-pillar, the design changes – the roof slopes down smoothly, forming a fastback style.

The rear window has a steeper slope than the previous X4 model and is equipped with a compact spoiler. The wide rear fenders give the car an athletic look.

The rear lights are made in the form of thin LED strips, located close to each other, and the license plate has been moved to the bumper. The prototype received alloy wheels with a diamond coating, but their design in the production version may change.

Dimensions and Aerodynamics

The exact dimensions of the iX4 have not yet been disclosed, but it is expected to be slightly longer than the iX3, which measures 4,783 mm. The wheelbase will remain the same – 2,898 mm. The model may improve aerodynamic performance, reducing the drag coefficient below 0.24 cd.

BMW iX3 Interior

Interior and Technologies

The iX4’s interior is practically identical to the iX3, except for less headroom for rear passengers. The car will receive a panoramic iDrive display across the entire width of the dashboard, a 17.9-inch touchscreen, and an optional 3D projection display. All systems will run on the BMW OS X operating system.

Platform and Powertrains

The iX4 is built on the Neue Klasse architecture, making it exclusively electric. The range of powertrains will mirror the iX3: from powerful dual-motor options to rear-wheel-drive versions with a single motor. The most powerful iX3 50 xDrive version produces 463 hp, and future modifications from the M division are possible.

Production Plans

The BMW iX4 presentation is scheduled for the end of 2026. This will be the brand’s second fully electric coupe SUV after the iX2, which debuted in 2023. There are also rumors about a larger iX6 model that will appear later.

Electric coupe SUVs are becoming increasingly popular among premium brands, and BMW is actively expanding its lineup. The iX4 combines dynamic design, advanced technology, and environmental friendliness, making it an important player in the future electric car market. Given the growing competition, such a model could attract enthusiasts with both its style and technical innovations.
