After 32 years, the most popular Volvo model has lost its classic shape

Volvo XC60 becomes the brand’s most popular model

The Volvo XC60 crossover has officially become the best-selling model in the history of the Swedish automaker. Since its debut in 2008, over 2.7 million units have been sold, allowing it to surpass the legendary 200 series. The latter was produced from 1974 to 1993 in sedan, coupe, and station wagon body styles and had until now been considered the brand’s hallmark.

In 2026, the model received an update that includes a revised grille with diagonal elements, darkened rear lights, and new wheel designs. The interior features updated upholstery options, an improved wireless charging system, and a larger 11.2-inch multimedia system screen.

The XC60 has not only inherited the popularity of the 240 but has also become the new generation’s family favorite. This is the best proof of the model’s success

Volvo representative Susanne Hägglund emphasized that the XC60 has taken the place of the 240 not only as a beloved family car but also as the absolute sales record holder. The shift in buyer preferences has led to crossovers finally displacing station wagons from the family car market.

The second generation XC60 debuted back in 2017, but constant updates allow it to remain relevant. Despite evolutionary changes, the model continues to combine Scandinavian design, practicality, and modern technology, which is the reason for its commercial success.
