Dubai Police ditches Italian supercars in favor of Chinese hybrid

Dubai Police adds Denza B8 hybrid to its fleet

Dubai Police, known for its fleet of supercars and luxury vehicles, has added the plug-in hybrid Denza B8 to its lineup. This new addition differs from the usual European exotic models such as Lamborghini, Mansory Rolls-Royce, or Ferrari.

Officials note that the B8 is the second generation of their “smart” patrol cars, Ghiath. The number of such vehicles that will enter service has not yet been announced. However, a signed memorandum of understanding with Al-Futtaim, the exclusive distributor of BYD in the UAE, opens up opportunities for a significant expansion of this patrol car fleet in the future.

Technology and performance

The smart Ghiath patrol cars are designed to introduce advanced technologies into the police fleet, including artificial intelligence. Their goal is to ensure optimal performance during police operations and enhance safety. Local police also claim that vehicles like the B8 will help reduce response times to calls.

This strategic partnership reflects our commitment to using innovation to develop sustainable security solutions that support Dubai’s future vision and contribute to creating a smarter, more efficient, and sustainable security transport ecosystem, said Lieutenant General Abdullah Khalifa Al Marri.

Appearance and technical specifications

Visually, the Denza B8 features the local police’s signature livery: a white body with green accents. The car is also equipped with numerous external LED flashing beacons located in the front grille and on the roof.

The Denza B8, which is sold in China as the Fangchengbao Bao 8, has been on the market for several years. It is built on a ladder frame platform and is equipped with BYD’s DMO Super Hybrid powertrain. It combines a 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine with two electric motors, delivering up to 738 hp and 760 Nm of torque. Although the car’s design is not as flashy as the rest of the Dubai police fleet, it can accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in 4.8 seconds.

This move demonstrates a shift in priorities for Dubai Police, which, in addition to prestigious supercars, is beginning to actively implement more practical and environmentally friendly technologies. The collaboration with BYD, one of the global leaders in electric vehicle manufacturing, indicates a strategic course towards sustainable development and the integration of artificial intelligence into the daily work of law enforcement. Thus, Dubai is not only maintaining its image as a city of the future but also taking practical steps to enhance police efficiency, using modern hybrid technologies that could become the basis for updating the entire fleet in the coming years.
