Chinese Automaker SAIC Unveils New Electric Z7 Model
The Chinese company SAIC has officially unveiled its new electric car, the Z7, available in two body styles: sedan and station wagon (Shooting Brake). Many believe the design of this newcomer bears a striking resemblance to the Porsche Taycan, which has already sparked considerable discussion.
Pricing Policy and Comparison with Porsche
Developed in collaboration with Huawei under the Harmony Intelligent Mobility Alliance (HIMA), the SAIC Z7 was partially revealed earlier this year. Its price is expected to range from 250,000 to 350,000 yuan, which is approximately $36,200 – $50,700. This is significantly lower than the price of the Porsche Taycan, which starts at 918,000 yuan (about $133,000) in China.
Design Details and Similarity to the Taycan
Although the front of the car has its own distinctive features, such as sharp LED headlights and a black lower grille, its side profile, roofline, side mirrors, and door handles look extremely similar to Porsche’s solutions.

The similarity becomes even more obvious at the rear, where the Z7, like the Taycan, features a full-width LED light strip on the trunk lid with complex graphics. The rear-end design also looks very familiar.

Shooting Brake Version and Special Paintwork
The Shooting Brake (station wagon) version, with its silhouette and side profile, is even closer in resemblance to the Porsche Taycan Sport Turismo. Interestingly, SAIC also showed the Z7 in a bright pink color with black wheels and pink rims. Similar paintwork was recently introduced on the anniversary edition of the Xiaomi SU7, which can be seen as a direct challenge to the competitor.
Interior and Expected Specifications
Only a few interior images have been published so far. They show a slim digital instrument cluster, a large central multimedia screen, and an additional display for the passenger. There are also two wireless charging pads and a sporty steering wheel with a flat bottom.

Technical specifications have not yet been officially confirmed. According to Chinese media, the electric car may receive battery packs with capacities of 80 kWh and 100 kWh, as well as rear-wheel drive or all-wheel drive. More detailed information is expected to emerge in the coming weeks.
The appearance of the SAIC Z7 once again highlights the intense competition in the Chinese electric vehicle market, where automakers are trying to offer high-tech products at affordable prices. Similarity to well-known European models often becomes a subject of debate, but for many buyers, the combination of price, technology, and design is the deciding factor. The success of models like the Z7 could force traditional auto giants to reconsider their strategies in one of the world’s largest markets.
