Electric Vehicle Sales Are Growing Worldwide

Global Electric Vehicle Sales in 2025

In the US, electric vehicle sales are facing serious difficulties. Reductions in government incentives and consumer biases have led to a decrease in momentum. However, overall EV sales in 2025 are higher compared to 2024. Data indicates that electric vehicles are becoming more popular not only in America but also in most other major world markets.

RHO Motion, a company specializing in electric vehicle market research, confirms that in the first seven months of 2025, global EV sales grew by 27% compared to the previous year. Of the 10.7 million electric vehicles sold, 6.5 million were in China, where growth was 29%. Europe showed an even higher result — 30% (2.3 million), while other regions of the world increased sales by 42% (0.9 million). The smallest growth was recorded in North America — only 2% (1 million units).

“Growth in North America was limited in 2025 due to political challenges and a slowdown in Canada. We expect a temporary increase in demand in the US before the September tax credit deadline, but a decline is possible afterwards. However, the overall trend in the global EV market remains positive.”

However, a certain slowdown is observed in China: sales fell by 13% in July compared to June. It is not yet clear if this is a temporary phenomenon. Overall, almost all markets, except the US, are actively developing the electric vehicle direction. The impact of this trend on the American auto industry remains in question.

The global electric vehicle market continues to grow, but at varying speeds depending on the region. China and Europe remain the leaders, while the US is lagging due to internal factors. The future will show whether American manufacturers can adapt to global changes in the industry or will remain outsiders.
