Appearance of the New E-bike
Rivian has long shown interest in creating e-bikes, as evidenced by numerous patents and information leaks over the past few years. Today we can finally see the result of these efforts – the new TM-B model, which has debuted on the market.
Creation of the Also Brand
This innovative e-bike has become the flagship product for Also, a new brand that spun off from Rivian. The TM-B offers a non-traditional approach to two-wheeled vehicles, and its success will depend on buyers’ willingness to try something new.
Design Features
The Also TM-B is difficult to call an ordinary bicycle or even an e-bike in the classical sense. In fact, it is a modular compact two-wheeled vehicle. The model’s design centers around a massive, moisture-protected unit in the lower part of the frame.
Inside this unit are the battery, a small generator, and the pedal system. It’s important to note that the pedals do not transmit effort directly to the rear wheel. Instead, they activate the generator, and the electric drive transfers power to the wheel.
Seat System and Control Profiles
Also offers three different control profiles and a system of interchangeable seats. Buyers can choose between small or large seats, as well as additional options including a cargo seat and a motorcycle-type bench seat.
Configurations and Prices
Users can also choose between the All-Terrain package with studded tires and two additional driving modes, or the Street package with smoother tires. The AT package costs an additional $200, although it seems the only hardware change is the Kenda mountain bike tires.
Technological Equipment
A five-inch touchscreen with a rotating frame allows access to important trip data and GPS navigation. The bike has full suspension with 120mm travel, but Also does not specify whether it can be locked for climbs or flat roads.
The brakes are of particular interest, as they are equipped with regenerative technology for battery charging and an ABS system. A special automatic locking system promises increased safety by locking the rear wheel, battery, and frame when activated.
Performance and Load Capacity
Also claims that their bikes will offer a range of 60 to 100 miles (approximately 97-161 kilometers) and torque up to 180 Nm (133 pound-feet). The load capacity reaches 324 pounds (147 kilograms) for higher-spec models.
Cost and Target Audience
The base TM-B model will cost less than $4,000, and the Launch Edition, available for order now, starts at $4,500 excluding additional options. This price is competitive in its segment. Undoubtedly, the bike is aimed at people interested in two-wheeled travel at an amateur level. Professional cyclists might find it somewhat limited.
It will not replace a traditional bicycle and will not interest every classic enthusiast, but it offers a fresh perspective on a form of transport that has been part of everyday life for over a century.
The appearance of the TM-B demonstrates how traditional automotive companies are expanding their horizons by exploring alternative forms of transportation. This product could become a bridge between regular cyclists and those seeking more technological solutions for urban mobility. The success of the TM-B will determine whether the market is ready for such innovative approaches in the micro-mobility industry.
