The Coolest American Car of the 60s to Go Under the Hammer for the Price of Three Bugattis en

In the USA, a unique Shelby Cobra 427 Super Snake was put up for auction at Barrett-Jackson. The sports car is planned to be sold for no less than $7-8 million (like three Bugatti Chirons) and it is one of the most expensive American cars of all time.

Only two Shelby Cobra 427 Super Snakes were produced in 1966. One roadster was crashed in an accident, and this car was personally built for Carroll Shelby.

Initially, it was a racing Shelby Cobra 427 Competition, but the cool Texan Shelby was not satisfied with the standard seven-liter V8 producing 485 hp. Therefore, Shelby decided to add two superchargers, which raised the power to an incredible 800 hp.

For a car weighing only 1156 kg, this is very cool. With a 3-speed automatic transmission, the acceleration to one hundred takes just 3 seconds, and the top speed exceeds 320 km/h. In the 60s, it was the fastest road car not only in America but in the whole world. Even the super-powerful Corvette L88 couldn’t compete with it.

Shelby later sold the Cobra 427 Super Snake, and it changed owners several times. It was kept in good condition but never fully restored. By the way, the current owner paid $5.5 million for it at an auction in 2007.
