The Cuddliest and Cutest Honda Car Breaks Order Records

The new model of the so-called kei-car named Honda N-One went on sale at the end of November, but already the automaker is struggling with the number of orders. Demand for the novelty exceeded Honda’s expectations four times over, and this despite the fact that the cute little car can only be purchased on the domestic market of Japan.

Honda planned to sell 2,000 units of the 2021 model year Honda N-One, whereas now there are already 8,000 applications. It should be noted, this is the successor of the kei-car that was produced from 2012 to 2020. Externally, it differs just like the old G-Class from the new one.

That is, there are changes, but they are mostly noticeable to the owners themselves.

The new kei-car, as before, is equipped with a 0.66-liter gasoline engine, which can be naturally aspirated or turbocharged. The transmission is either a CVT or a manual (which previously was not available for this car). Despite its cuteness and very compact dimensions, the interior of the car seems much larger and has practically lost the usual ‘physical’ buttons, replaced by touch-sensitive keys.

How much does this wonder cost in Japan?

To reiterate, despite its size, you can buy such a car for the price of a normal full-size ‘budget’ model, including even crossovers like the Renault Duster or the new 7-seater crossover Jetour X70! The price is from 1,599,400 yen (almost 440 thousand hryvnias). Let’s remember, this year in Ukraine, a Japanese electric minivan Mitsubishi Minicab i-MiEV was spotted, which also belongs to kei-cars, only for ‘large families’.

Why are kei-cars (from the Japanese keijidosha) popular in Japan? It’s simple – since the mid-1950s, Japan has legally defined them as cars for which it is not mandatory to purchase or rent a parking spot (in the case of full-size ones, it is mandatory), and moreover, taxes on such ‘fleas’ are significantly lower.

K-cars are subject to restrictions on size and engine volume: 3.4 m in length, 1.48 m in width, and 2 m in height. The engine is 0.66 liters and no more than 64 horsepower (although the latter is regularly reviewed, considering technological advancements). By the way, the new Suzuki Jimny meets these standards!
